Transfer of Mac cutomized Views to Raspberry Pi
« on: July 30, 2023, 04:16:46 pm »

I am using a NAS server for the music library for a Mac and a Raspi.   I have quite an extensive cutomized views on the Mac - primarily for Classical music listings by composer.  Is there a clever way of copying the custom views from the Mac to the Raspi?

The library is the same in both computers....but the syntax pointing at the NAS is different so I can't copy the whole thing.

I see that there are menu choices to save the view to a file and then load the view......which works great for an individual view, but I can't figure out how to save the whole ball of wax....

UPDATE:   I am not sure how I did this but I successfully copied the customized views from Mac to Raspi.   I saved the Library backup from the Mac and then restored to the Raspi.   And it worked.   I didn't have to tell the Raspi where the NAS files were.

Unbelievable.

Indeed, library backup and restore is an amazing feature in MC. I maintain 4 copies of my library on a Pi, a NAS, an MBP and an iMac. Since I am constantly working on improving the library I use backup/restore every day. It is simply great.

When I restored from backup, I thought all was well, but when I played a tune, it couldn't find the album.   But an easy fix.  I just did an import of the NAS library.  I'm not sure if the old reference to the NAS from the MAC is still in there, but it appears to be working OK.

I use the 'portable library' feature to make sure the path to the media is correct.
