Search keeps freezing [Solved]
MichaelF:
I have had MC 30 for quite a while with no problems but now it is just a bit of a pain.
I open MC as normal but quite often when I try and do a search the spinning blue windows ring appears and everything freezes.
I can't do anything. Eventually a message comes up saying "This process is not responding. Do you want to end this process?". I click yes but nothing happens, then the end process message may come up again. It might eventually shut down. Alternatively I might have to do control/alt/delete to call up task manager. I can't get to task master any other way because everything is frozen. When I shut it down and try and log back in I get the message "Media Centre is running but there may be a problem. Possible causes:
1. The programme is also running under a different user.
2. Media Centre 30 and Media Server are both in the windows start up. You must remove one.
3. The programme is not responding for an unknown reason.
When I look at task manager I usually see MC 30 running under the Apps heading with Media Centre Service under background apps.
At other times both MC 30 and MSC are running as background processes but not in apps.
I have reinstalling the programme but the problem comes back.
I am running Windows 11 Pro, 64 bit. 32gb installed ram. 12th generation i7 processor, 1 gb ssd.
Any suggestions?
Matt:
You could look at the log for clues. You could try MC31.
JimH:
Antivirus?
MichaelF:
I have done a complete scan of my system. No virus found.
I have uninstalled and re-installed version 30, same problem.
I have upgraded to version 31 but still have the same problem.
Attached is a copy of the log but I don't know what I am looking for.
Can anybody look at it and tell me if there is a problem.
JimH:
What are you using for antivirus software? We recommend only using Windows Defender, but you have to configure it. Look on this board for a thread.
