MC 30 for Mac CD Issues

I'm having issues with ripping CD's - usually MC does not see that a CD has been inserted and occasionally will correctly identify a CD then immediately say that media is no longer present. I have changed Mac settings to open MC30 when a music CD is inserted - this does indeed open MC but CD is rarely seen and ripping is never possible. It's a pain having to rip with iTunes, import files to MC then convert etc.
