JRemote (iOS) 3.41
« on: November 13, 2023, 09:58:43 am »

New in this version:

Added Opus playback support for the device zone.
Fix for long-pressing an album to start playback resulting in the album cover remaining at a reduced size.
For iPads the full screen cover art display will update with the track being played.
Use the new entitlement to send a multicast WakeOnLan packet.
Use unicast broadcast address for WakeOnLan if all multicast broadcast doesn't work.
Volume buttons can now control remote zone volume.
Updated internal version numbers and changelog.
Fixed AirPlay chooser showing in wrong place after enabling the volume buttons for remote zones.
Volume buttons no longer change the system volume when changing a remote zone volume.
Fix crashes in pause while sleeping.

First of all thank you for the updates.

CarPlay is not functioning for me. The behavior I get:

When opening from phone while connected to vehicle, it works fine
After the app is open and I try to open from vehicle screen, it crashes.

When the app is closed and using CarPlay to open it does not.  I wish I could video the behavior.

Would be nice if JRemote could save last session and pick up where you left off.

Also would like Artist - Album view in folders

A way to save playlists created in remote

Doesn't CarPlay launch automatically when you plug in your phone?

Same here it was working fine before 3.41.
If I start the app on the iPhone no problem but if
I try to open it in CarPlay it crashes right away.

However even with the previous version I always had to start the app on the iPhone first but once started it wasn’t crashing like 3.41 and could use it just fine with JRemote through Carplay.

Yes, it was always necessary to have JRemote running first but are you guys saying that it won't open at all in CarPlay now?

Yes it won’t open at all for me if I go full screen in CarPlay. It is working as long as JRemote is in a smaller window ie not full screen in CarPlay.

3.40 was working as long as you started it from the phone first.

I could share a pic of my car radio if needed to explain...

Please try the beta release version 3.42 build 445. It should resolve the CarPlay problem. If you aren't a beta tester, PM me.

Please provide steps to reproduce this, zone, device, etc.
Nothing should have changed with regards to playlists that I'm aware of.

3.42 works but it crashed several times at first and on exit. I submitted through test flight hope it helps.
Still unable to start a playlist from CarPlay.

“Clear Remaining” clears the cue list (what you can see) but the music keeps playing through the next song.

It's got something to do with AVRoute output device changes. I'm uploading beta build 448 shortly. See if that makes a difference...

Early indication is that it has sorted the crash issue for me Bob.

Also JRemote seems a lot snappier...I was experiencing serious lag in browsing and response that I put down to my network, but this latest build has made a big difference.

Experiencing a new problem that did not exist before the upgrade: When controlling MC server with JRemote, and losing connectivity (it happens in my house a fair bit for some reason, always has), I'll change the focus of my iPhone 14 Pro back to JRemote, the volume instantly increases. I'll have to close the app, re-launch (for fresh connection) and lower the volume.

SYSTEM: JRiver Id NUC via TOSLINK to ROTEL control amp. JRemote 3.41 on iOS 17.1.1. on secure Wifi6.

Hi all--

I don't think this unusual behavior is related to 3.41 specifically. My memory is that I've seen it happening for quite some time...

Basically, when I trigger a Smartlist from JRemote, it doesn't play the displayed files, but a different set entirely. Some details:
- I have a smartlist defined on a Windows-based MC (v31.0.87--though again, I've seen this behavior for quite some time). I can provide the smartlist code if needed. I think the only 'oddity' about it is it has a time limitation on it.
- Using JRemote 3.41 (iOS and iPadOS), navigate to the smartlist and tap on the 1st track while set to "Play all now".
- The files played are not the files shown in the JRemote list, though they do seem to adhere to the smartlist's rules.

Any insight welcome...

Thanks!

This is a due to a change quite a while ago that regenerates the smartlist every time the files are requested.  I will look into changing this back.

That makes sense. I remember (many versions ago) that I used to have to 'reconnect' to the MC Server in order to have smartlists refresh with new files. I must have missed that change, because I've still been doing that :)

I think it might be a small improvement if the regeneration request happened when the smartlist is displayed in JRemote and not when the 'play' command is issued.

Thanks for verifying that I'm not crazy! (About this specific thing at least)....

Just an update from switching to beta.  It’s great!  No crashing and responsive.  I used to have to kill the app and reopen just to reconnect to the server.  It also saves the last track played if I disconnect from the car and reconnect.  So far so good. More feedback coming.

Same here… You really need to unplug the iPhone ASAP to avoid the several crash messages and make sure JRemote is not the active app in CarPlay. You can still use it but make sure you start the app from the iPhone and then it will work through CarPlay..

Mine started crashing after it auto updated on yesterday.  The share crash notification is a huge annoyance because you really can’t navigate out and close.  It also is in a loop.

What were you doing at the time? It's trying to get information from the audio plugin?

I think in my case it’s when I plug in the phone in the car and JRemote is the app in CarPlay. Then it generates crash popups every half a second roughly. You need to unplug the iPhone right away, kill JRemote, replug and start JRemote from the phone for it to work properly

Not getting any tracebacks with these crashes.

Hey Folks...chiming in here.
On my Audi Q7, 3.41 works fairly well if started on the phone first but it displays in the Virtual Cockpit window of the car instead of the center screen where Car Play resides. It will not launch from the Car Play screen, but keeps playing on the Virtual Cockpit window.

Not sure if that helps with troubleshooting....

I have a couple head units that just arrived today to test with.
From preliminary results, it seems to be related to the iOS version. I have an older device with iOS 10 that works perfectly but my iOS 17 device crashes just as you say. Need to get it into the debugger.
Are you connecting via USB or bluetooth/wifi?
