Playback cuts out periodically when streaming

What is the reason for interruption of playback when streaming from my external drive connected to my Mac to my Oppo 203?  Is it the drive that is slow or is it my internet connection?  I am streaming wirelessly.  Could it also be size of the file being too big?  I am currently using a “My Passport” WD usb external drive for my music files.  Would a faster drive work better?

It could be sleeping.

It appears that the speed of the drive does play a role.  I just bought a new Samsung USB-C drive and have streamed using it all day and haven’t experienced one hesitation.  That has never happened before.
