MC32 Crash When External USB Disc Drive Present
JayGrady:
MC Version 32.0.11
iMac 27" Late 2020 Intel
Mac OS Sonoma v 14.2.1
* Got a new CD I wanted to rip. Got my USB 3 external CD player out and plugged in to back of iMac. MC32 crashed immediately.
* 2 attempts to restart app failed. Bouncy icon then crash.
* Tried downloading v11 from JRiver web site and re-installing. (Previous upgrade from .10 to .11 was the auto-update from within MC app). Same result. App would not launch or run.
* Asking myself "What changed?" it was obvious so I unplugged the CD player from the iMac. MC32 then ran perfectly.
* Plugged CD player back in to iMac. MC instantly crashed with no interaction w/ app. Did not even click the icon or bring window to forefront.
I saved the complete text dump from the crash. Happy to upload file if need be.

Did you try rebooting the Mac with the drive attached?

No didn't go to that extreme. I hate rebooting my Mac. And the external drive works fine. I just used the Apple Music app to rip the CD. So the Mac and the drive are both getting along swimmingly. By sheer coincidence there's an update to MacOS available today that I need to download which will likely cause me to reboot. So I'll check again after that happens late tonight.

Hey Jim,
I ran the test - I have MC32 set to load on boot. I rebooted with drive attached and disc inserted and MC32 crashed instantly. I still have MC 31.0.83 installed and it does not have the problem. I have posted crash logs for this on a couple of threads here.
For good measure, I installed MC32 for Ubuntu in a VM - the problem does not occur. Don't know if that provides any helpful info but it only took a couple of minutes to do.

May be another gift from Apple. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,138043.msg957362.html#msg957362
