Feature Request: Add in-app documentation for important new features
(1/1)
markf2748:
I suggest adding two lines to the Tree's Playing Now right click menu, something like: "Split Horizontal" and "Split Vertical" one of which is dynamically greyed out depending on current Player display H or V split state. The menu should also include a smart shortcut display at the right end of each line that shows either <Playing Now> or <CTRL><Playing Now> as appropriate, depending on selected default split option. That would intelligently clarify what is going on.
Similar for Relaunch. Expose it at bottom of the File Menu along with showing its hotkey <Middle Click><Close Button>. And, or alternatively, add this info to the tooltip for the Close Button (if possible).
This visual in-app documentation is essential since JRiver typically does not update its Wiki pages for important new features like these, beyond long lists of release notes in which features eventually get deeply buried. The Wiki page for Keyboard Hot-keys says it has not been updated since 11 March 2018! :(

1) Playing Now RMB menu Simpler suggestion for a new section which cleanly says it all and is worth the menu bloat:
_____________________________________
Player tab default split Playing Now
Player tab other split Ctrl+Playing Now
_____________________________________
or
_____________________________________
Player tab option split Playing Now
Player tab other split Ctrl+Playing Now
_____________________________________
or
_____________________________________
Player split > option Playing Now
Player split > other Ctrl+Playing Now
_____________________________________
or something similar.
2) Bottom of File menu:
_____________________________________
Exit Alt+F4 or Close Button
Relaunch MMB on Close Button
_____________________________________
Can simplify further by using the operating system dependent icon instead of "Close Button" (white X on red field for Windows).
3) Tab Close action
_____________________________________
Close view MMB or Ctrl+w
_____________________________________
Add this menu line to the View Tab hover menu.

Revision: Simplified 3) to add only "Close view" to the tab hover menu. This action is distinct from the corresponding Tree "Delete" action which entirely removes a view scheme.
2/20/2024 Edit: Add Ctrl+w to 3), which certainly works nicely for MS Windows - I'm not sure what the equivalents are in other OSs but I assume they exist.
Between adding the proposed menu item with two shortcuts, a search on "Close" in the options window to reveal the tab "x" button option, or a google search, this important question "How do I close tabs?" should never hit the forum again (one might hope :) ):
