However, when clicking on the application, I'm getting the notice " You are using Media Center 28 Windows to install a license for a different version. Please download and install the version that matches your license and then try again".

I've trying to run the application from a NAS connected to my network. Is that the reason I'm getting this problem?

Just download and install MC32 from this page:  https://jriver.com/download.html

Then restore.

1. I have MC32 installed on 2 laptops in my house, I plan on leaving one in my bsmt music room.
I'm surprised the playlists on the 2 laptops seem independent of each other, does that sound correct? all else is great   TIA

On the wiki, read about Media Server.  Start a thread if you need help.

Randy Alexander:
Oh, I have read WIKI about Media Server several times and unfortunately do not understand a lot of it. I was hoping I could ask a single question to help understand. Great product but support system lacking, In trying this I've made things worse and give up. One laptop is a new install and the other an update from MC25 I can only assume they are the same version and build of Media Center as I'm not sure how to check but sure don't want to ask.

JimH:
It's in Help > About.
