is there a way to have the media server open as a background task without to open the media center UI ?

TOOLS —> OPTIONS —> STARTUP —> MAC STARTUP —> Drop down and select “Media Server” —> Click APPLY.

Restart your Mac, Media Server will come up without the interface being launched.

To get to the interface - click on the Media Center icon up in the toolbar and select “Show Media Center”

Do NOT click on Close Media Center unless you want to get completely out of MC — instead, just click the red “X” to close the media center window and server will remain running in the background.
