Vanishing import folders [Solved]
« on: March 14, 2024, 12:38:31 pm »

Hello:
Since version 32 started, My import folders
will suddenly disappear.
As a result of this, folders with new mkvs do not get updated, until I add those folders, again.

Sorry George, but it will be impossible for anyone to assist with your issue unless you provide more information.

My own experience has been flawless. Moving from 31 to 32, all of my auto import settings came across, and have remained intact. Thank the MC team as there's very heavy and complex use of 'tag on import' rules in there.

So I guess first and most important question is...

Where do these folders that keep disappearing reside? On a NAS by any chance? Or maybe a removable drive?

folders are on regular drives
With MC 31, I never had any problem.
When I migrated to MC 32, folders were migrated.
But a few days later, most of the paths will be removed.
I have recently zapped the database, reprocessed the paths one by one. Then run the imports.
The files do not get erased, just the various paths.
When this occur, folders watching will not work, new mkvs will not auto update, I have  to rekey the paths again.
Thanks.

1) Are you using a portable database?
2) Was your existing database in the stock location or somewhere else?

Does it happen after you reboot?
If so you're likely on a TEMP user profile (ie, your user profile is corrupt); or perhaps you use some software like deep-freeze to keep the PC always in the same condition?

In either case, you'd notice other things in Windows that would also revert on reboot.

Linux? It's why I bowed out. I know nothing about Linux.

Doh, never mind, didn't notice the Linux part :)
Yeah, I don't know where MC stores the settings in Linux either. In Windows this is not part of the database, so perhaps the same is true in Linux, and the settings file is getting lost somehow.

Hello:
no problem, my friend.
I am beginning  to think settings are being deleted.
Thanks

Hello:
Please do not bow out. With your experience, hang in. You may be able to contribute.

1) Are you using a portable database?
2) Was your existing database in the stock location or somewhere else?
Hello:
Glad to hear from you.
I am not using a portable database.
On about February 18th, I migrated from MC 31 to MC 32. All the 40 or so folders were in place in the MC32.
I begin to notice import folders vanishing, folders that are already keyed to be watched for new mkvs are no more there. If these folders are no more there, new files will not be imported. I have to manually run the import jog again.
Speaking of MC 32.. I noticed lots of issues.
With MC 31 my main issue in that version was black bar detect not working. I never got it to work regardless of my settings.I think memory allotted to MC has a lot to do. The OS does engage in background processing.
MC itself also does lots of background processing. Example tools and black bar stuff.
During this processing, memory is been use.
Watching 4k mkvs with MO4media from the Sony Bravia buffers a lot, then I will come downstairs to find tools running, or black bar stuff running. In most cases, the black bar gets frozen at 3 out 100, or 2 out 50.
I have to quit the desktop by logging out and logging in again, then reload MC 32.
I did not have this issue with MC 31.
I am also having issues with pasting cover art. It should be easy to paste, this time, I get image not on clip board, I have to save image, then reload image again. You solved this issue 4 years ago.

In my opinion, when MC installs,  in a given system, it should detect available memory, then grab memory, based on the amount of memory in use .
For me, I have 128 gig of memory and RTX 2080 TI. My Linux server should not experience any slow down, if proper memory aggregation is utilized.
About the vanishing of folders.
I had gone to load MC 31, after contacting you, 40 folders that were programmed in the import path are still intact. Nothing is lost. For testing purpose, I added two additional folders with no problem.
Coming back to MC 32, it is exact opposite.
About Black bar detecting:
Since I had no luck with it on MC 31, early days of MC 32, no luck, so I tried to disable it.
It still will come on locking up, not finishing, thus affecting 4K movie playback over the network.
I found some info regarding black.
I tried to create "Crop 4K, and Crop 2K" fields in MC, but I was unable to edit the fields with new info.
Anyway to make these fields editable, and use able system wide, any way to add this feature ?

Below is the info:
!080P : 0x22x1920x1058
4K:    0x42x3840x2118

Of recent: I ripped Aliens,Aquaman2, Color purple 2023, True lies the Abyss, and Roaming Twenties.

Aliens crop info : 0x44x3840x2116
Aquaman2 crop info: 0x0x3840x2160
Color Purple 2023 crop: 0x42x3840x2118
4K:    0x42x3840x2118

The above had the screen filled with images with popping color.
4K cropping info above could be added to the three listed above.

BUT:True Lies :0x280x3840x1884:
The Abyss:0x278x3840x1882:
These two -- no luck with cropping.

There is an odd ball dolby vision mkv:
Roaring Twenties.
This looks like 4:3 aspect ratio, color white... no luck with cropping.

Info for this :440x03400x2160.

I have over 1000 dolby vision mkvs, that need to be converted from profile 7.06 to 8.4.
I have only tested may be 10 mkvs.
With this app, there is also cropping info that let you key in 0,0,0,0.
I am attaching the logs for Abyss and True Lies. Proof for the successful addition of the cropping info to the RPUs will be at the bottom of the logs.
But MC 32 player still can not play the mkv with the new cropping info.
Any help on this ?

Note: My conclusion for the vanishing setting is that MC can not detect the setting, maybe it is lost or misplaced .
   Thanks.

Hello: Partial resolution to these issues reported earlier:
As of 04/08/2024, the folders do not vanish anymore.
I had to wipe everything out, and start a new database. With this new dbf, imports or rather auto import now works well. I just add mkvs to any folder that is already on the import path and mkvs get updated.
Cover arts pasting now works.
MC now loads up faster, before it was very sluggish, at times it will take about 3 minutes or more to load.
BUT- I still have weird behavior..
In options- General -Bookmark, regardless of my choice.. Ask, automatic, resume, does not work. Bookmark is failing.
Exiting MC is still very slow, at times it will not. I have to log out of the OS and back in to reload MC.
Thanks.
