It's not bad news.  It's just the passing of the baton.  Jim just needs to find the next Head Honcho.

I vote for this guy..

I've been away for a bit... Big news!

MC has been a part of my life for a good few decades now (ever since the Media Jukebox days) and have gone through stages of a music focus, video focus and photos/home media. Now I use for all three. There is no other program like it.

Things change, and I hope that MC will continue in some form. Jim you will do what you find the most reward in, as you absolutely should! You have a great team and I hope you all have some security moving forward as well.

My beta team efforts have slowed in recent years (by necessities of life and family) but have been very happy to be on the MC journey for many years.

My one and only question...

Will I have to start looking for a new "Media Center?"

Warts and all, I have come to like JR Media Center.

And now, it seems like it may go away.

That concerns me.

I honestly don't think it's going away anytime soon. Besides even if it was to MC would likely still work for years to come. Yes, licensing and activations may be an issue but I assume if things were going to end the devs would address that issue so it could still be used.

My advice would be to wait and see what happens. It's still early.

As Mark Twain is supposed to have said, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated".

Nobody is quitting.  Not JRiver or MC.

I'm old and I don't like change....

I'm 66... I could not imagine life without MediaCenter for Windows.  I fear that someday... it will stop working or I can't re-install on my PC with an OS "update".

I'm 66 as well and share your view of things...

MC is a very important part of my life. No matter what happens, I will continue to use MC every day until I'm dead in 10 or so years. If in a worst case scenario JRiver support stopped and Microsoft introduced an incompatibility I would roll back Windows and stay there forever.

I'm pretty happy with the product as it is. If new feature development slowed I would continue to pay annual updates if that's what it took to keep key members of the team working on it.

Agree with you there...

I think Option 1 is almost guaranteed to either end JRiver or make it something you wouldn't want it to be.

Yes! Please don't sell the company if you care about the beautiful product you built.

I have been using JRiver for almost 20 years now. It runs 24H a day 7 days a week on several of my computers. This piece of software is the only one essential to me as there is definitely no equivalent product in the market. It is essential that this company survives and to do so the software has to be continually adapted to new standards and needs even if it is slowly. Then the team which is probably not very young also has to remain or even reinforced with new blood,  which means that solution 1 and 3 are not recommended. I hope you will find something derived from solution 2 with a kind of lmbo or esop, the most difficult being to find a manager.

Agree, definitely not #1 which will almost certainly spell ruin. #3 is risky, could be good in the long run but maybe not. #2 is my hope.

I've used this program for six years, primarily for music but also for video. Love it. Tried Audirvana and it lacked the sophistication and flexibility. Tried Roon and it made a mess of my library views and at the price they're asking I didn't bother trying to fix things, I'm not looking for a virtual music encyclopedia. I kind of like having it integrated with Qobuz streaming but on the other hand I prefer to keep my local library and streaming libraries separate. Qobuz player can be janky but it sounds fine. I love JRiver and will use it as long as I can.

Best regards to all of you...

I hope that whatever happens, streaming is incorporated into JRiver, like Qobuz and Tidal.  That would be awesome.

Hi Jim, can’t believe I missed this one. We need to get back into our pre-Covid lunches here in Minneapolis.

Anyway, you’ve been around the block a few times,  understand business well, and aren’t motivated by money above all else. I believe this will all turn out well for everyone.

There are things that MC does that no other app does. Period. Plus, the fact that it doesn’t track my every move and report back to the mothership is a godsend.

I have some ideas for the future, but need to collect the thoughts before posting. I’m more of a measure twice cut once guy with this stuff.
