Mac > JRiver Media Center 32 for Mac

Basic help needed: iMac/JRMedia32/DAP

(1/1)

RobMac:
Apologies for being so uneducated about all this.

I've ordered an Astell&Kern SR35 DAP - digital audio player - for which I hope to listen to flac-level files through wired headphones.

My only computer is a 2021 iMac.

I've downloaded JRiver Media Center 32 and have imported my Amazon albums. In the future I will buy albums at flac level when possible.

I have 300+ CDs I now need to rip at the highest level possible to place on the DAP

So, I need advice on the following:

1. How to disable iTunes automatically firing up when I insert a CD for ripping?

2. How to choose the highest level when ripping? I know flac is too high for CDs.

3. How to get JRiver MC32 onto the DAP?

Thanks,
Rob

joob:
1. I use No-Tunes to disable iTunes. Small script someone wrote. Love it! Google it, you can find it on Github

2. CD to flac is fine. Other than the space it takes up, it's probably the best way to go. Seems like you don't have a lot of experience ripping? ...if so, I recommend XLD for ripping.

3. Sorry, I'm no help on this one.

Awesome Donkey:
You're not going to get MC32 onto the DAP itself, that's not possible. Ripping CDs to FLAC is fine, a lot of people do this (including myself), just make sure as RobMac mentioned you have the space to store it. Also there's a chance the A&K may not work with MC32 at all, I've heard reports over the years of A&K devices not working with/not being detected by MC, and it being on a Mac too, there's a chance it may not work or detect it.

I'm just saying if it doesn't work and/or if it isn't even detected, don't be surprised.

JimH:
Some people have reported success with Askell & Kern players, some not.

It's a good idea to ask A&K.
