Track # problem in "Files" area
« on: July 30, 2024, 02:04:35 pm »

On the dropdown menu, I have sorted by Date (oldest first). This nicely arranges the albums in order but the individual track numbers are all out of order for whatever reason. I've checked everything. Nothing to do with file names, or upload dates, or last played dates, or anything like that. Anyone know how to fix this?

Note: this is only a problem in the Files tab. In Albums, Artists, Genres, I don't have this problem.

It should also be noted that some albums aren't affected. Example attached here.

It's sorting by 'Date' field, as noted by the '1' next to the Date column header. Just click on the 'Track #' column header to sort by that instead, and MC should remember it.

Some albums are sorting OK because their timestamps happen to match the track order.

Some albums are sorting OK because their timestamps happen to match the track order.

Why does the Date field/tag contain Timestamps? I always thought the Date field/tag was supposed to hold the date the record/album was released, which is just a "Day Month Year" Date, although sometimes it only contains the Year.
It looks to me like what ever is being used to rip the tracks is populating the Date field/tag with the data that belongs in the "Date Created" field/tag; which is a Timestamp and earlier tracks on an album/disc having later timestamps than later tracks is fairly common.

If the [Date] is the same on all tracks then it's sorting by whatever is the 2nd selected sort column (which may or may not be displayed). Either way, clicking the Track# header solves it.
You can check the raw date value with [Date, 0]
