Playback dropping out

(1/1)

diocletian9:
Hi All,

For the last 3 or 4 years I have had playback regularly dropping out. The issue began suddenly and has been ongoing ever since. I have spent hours and hours trying to rectify this issue, over the years - messing round with various firewall and AV settings - but nothing stopped it. I was hoping that release 32 on a stable Windows 11 setup would be OK - but no, the problem remains.

I am playing my music from a Synology DS120j NAS unit, fitted with a WD Gold HDD. The DAC is a Cambridge Audio DACMagic Plus and I am using the ASIO driver. I am running Malwarebytes and Sophos Anti Virus, for security. I have set the buffer settings to maximum.

Can someone please tell me what I need to do, step by step, to solve this problem.

JimH:
Could be a network problem.

Could be your NAS.  Try playing from a local drive.

Search for NAS in this thread:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,24031.350.html

Read other topics there.

Get rid of the antivirus and use only Windows Defender.

Try Direct Sound instead of ASIO.

It's not JRiver.

Thanks for your reply.

The NAS worked great for a couple of years - until it suddenly didn't - but I will try playing locally as a last resort.

I have to use Sophos as it is a workplace requirement.

I will try Direct Sound next.

Of course the Proper name is Media Center by JRiver

Again - thanks for the advice.

Matt:
A simple thing would be to set the buffering in Options > Audio > Device settings to a larger value.  You could also increase prebuffering in Options > Audio.

If it still hiccups, it's probably something hardware related.
