After getting my new Nike PSA 128 Max MP3 player to work with MusicMatch Jukebox, I tried with my -preferred- MP3 library... you guessed it, Media Jukebox 9...

So... I proceeded to download the Nike PSA plug-in for V.8/9, and everything seemed to install correctly, but when I try to Send a mp3 file to it through MJ, MJ says "Initiatization Failed.  Please check that the correct drivers are installed and that the device is on".  Well, the device is on, and I -think- the correct driver is installed (but curiously, when looking at the plug in device information under Tools | Plug-In Manager | Handheld | Nike PSA, the Company Info says "Rio" not Philips/Nike).  

Help!!!  Please don't force me to use MusicMatch Jukebox!!!!!

Yes, that's where I got the plug-in.  I downloaded and installed the v8/9.

Do not be concerned about the Company Info / Rio thing or the 0 bytes. The Compay info is how SonicBlue asked us to list the Company and the 0 bytes is a flaw with the webpage that can't currently be resolved, but it does not reflect a problem with the Plug-in.

Almost certainly the inability for the Nike to be detected is a driver problem. We are not permitted to distribute the drivers for the Nike. They should be installed when you install the software (Rioport?) that comes with the Nike. Could you please install that software and verify that you can connect to the Nike with it. If you can, you should be able to work with MC.

I am not able to verify this for you because a fellow JRiver employee borrowed the Nike over the holidays so I don't have it here, but I tested this fairly recently and all was well.  Please feel free to email me at steve @ jriver.com if you can't get this going.

Thanks Steve.  I did install the Nike drivers from the installation CD as well as MusicMatch Jukebox, which also came with it.  Rio port doesn't come with the Nike, at least not with the PSA 128.  

As I mentioned, MusicMatch has no problem sending MP3s to the Nike.  But for good measure, I tried reinstalling the drivers again and rebooted.  Media Jukebox still cannot communicate with the Nike.. it says initialization failed (exactly message earlier in thread).  

Interestingly, when MJ is running, if I try to unpack and install the driver from the J River "HH_Nike" pack, the file it's trying to overwrite is "HH_RIO600.DLL".  Is that right??  I don't think the Nike PSA is a clone of the Rio, but I could be wrong, so maybe that's the problem.

The hh_rio600.dll is correct. This dll was designed to work for Rio 600,800,900 and Nike.

Could you try going to RioPort's site

and get the Nike psa drivers found there to see if they will help?

Sure, will give it a try, but one question first... I have the new Nike PSA 128 model.  The Rio site lists one set of drivers for the PSA 60/120 (those are the older models) but has nothing for the new PSA 128.  They also have drivers listed for the Rio 500/600/800.  At first, I was thinking I should go with the Nike drivers, but since you said the Rio600.dll was correct, should I pick the Rio 500/600/800 drivers instead??

I'm having the exact same error messages, but with my Rio 500.  It too works perfectly with MusicMatch, but not with Media Center.  I'm using Windows XP and a downloaded version of Media Jukebox basic (don't know the exact version, but downloaded from this website on 30 Jan 03 - I'm at work now).  I have the plugin installed off of the website, but the driver is the standard Rio driver that was installed with the player and works under MusicMatch.  Any ideas for this 'initialization' error?  Thanks.

I need to release an updated Plugin for Rio 500 and Media Center. There will be a webpage soon that will split the Plugins for MJ8 and MC9. When this is posted get the latest Rio 500 Plugin and hopefully you will be all set.
