Append to Zone, but ...

Great!  Glad to hear that worked.

So apparently the play upon add setting overrides the 12 "add…" menu items shown in my screenshot, where the implied behavior is that play will not immediately begin.  I say implied since all the menu items above the 12 "add…" items are clearly intended to begin play after completing the send to operation.

I wonder if it makes more sense for the override behavior be the other way around?  That is, even if the setting is checked to begin play upon add, that doing so from this menu should ignore it. As it is now, it makes the lower half of the menu options moot as you yourself found out.  Figured I would highlight this in the event Matt agrees the current behavior is something that should be reconsidered.

Add for me is just to add, not to add and play. It seems to me that it's more user-friendly to make two options: "Add" and "Add and play" (append, add next, etc). The checkbox in settings is not too intuitive. IMHO, of course

What you're asking for already exists.  The top half of that sub-menu is "Add and Play", the menu just calls it "Play" (but the items are added).  The problem is the menu's bottom half, where it is supposed to "Add" only but gets overridden when the Start playing when files added to PlayingNow box is checked (in Options/General/Behavior).

The point I was trying to make in my previous post is that the setting shouldn't override the menu, but that the menu should override the setting. No new options are needed - just change the override behavior.

Stated another way:  setting not checked, the menu delivers exactly what you want/expect - the top half adds and plays, the bottom half adds only.  When the setting is checked however, the bottom half of the menu behaves the same as the top half - it both adds and plays due to the setting overriding the lower menu expected behavior.

MaxA:
Yes, thank you for clarification, my setting was the problem. Don't even remember why I checked it or if it was checked by default. Looks like that's my job  :)
