How to turn off narration feature?
« on: November 01, 2024, 07:59:59 pm »

I have a strange issue that I've been unable to solve or search on.

I watch movies on a TCL TV using the Roku Media Player, streamed from my desktop PC running JRiver Media Center 31 / Media Server.

I recently purchased a Blu-Ray movie and ripped it to MKV format (using VLC) to allow streaming from this setup.  When I watch the movie on my desktop through Media Center it plays just fine.  But when I stream it to the TV I get a background voice narrating the non-dialog action in the movie.  I've checked Roku Media Player settings and don't see any way to disable this.  I'm not sure if it is enabled via Roku, Media Center, or other.

Would anyone know how to turn this narration feature off?

Your movie has multiple audio tracks, and one of them is the narration track (Visually Impaired track, for blind people). MC is selecting the correct audio track based on your language preference, but apparently your Roku is selecting the wrong track (or just picking the first track which happens to be that one). Assuming your TV is using DLNA for streaming, MC has no way of controlling this, it's up to the TV/Roku settings.

Possible solutions:
- You should have a menu or button on the remote to select the audio track. Maybe you've turned on some accessibility setting.
- You can re-rip your movie excluding the unwanted audio tracks, leave only the main one
- You can use MKVToolNix or some other tool to rework the already ripped movie and remove the unwanted track, or change the track order/preference so that the Roku picks the correct one.

Thank you!  Very helpful.  I will look into those options.
