MC 33 and features request
« on: Yesterday at 12:14:46 am »

Hello.

I’m about to buy MC 33 but I would like to know if there is a chance in a near future to get the following improvements for JRVR renderer :

1)perform an automatic zoom according to the screen format. This feature is currently handled by madVR renderer and it is very useful for those using a video projector with a 2.35 screen format.

2)perform an automatic shift for subtitles in a way so they display in the image and never in the black bars. Same reason as for 1)

Interstellar movie is a good example.

With those features, I would be able to stop using madVR renderer and use JRVR instead.

Thanks and BR.

I'm not sure why for you, but I've been using the zoom control and moving subtitles for years on JR, even all the time I moved from madvr to JRVR, it's all there!

Hello.

Do you mean with interstellar movie and a 2.35 ratio screen, JRVR can automatically resize the image to keep a constant height video projection continuously during playback ? If yes, could you tell me which setting I need to use, I have tried for days without any success and my trial period is about to expire (and I have already extended it once)

Thanks

JRVR does not implement a live option, it does an offline analysis to determine the AR and then can zoom black bars away based on that determination. It's similar to the madvr option that tells it to pick one AR and stick with it (but done offline so it's consistent through the film). If you want constantly changing AR then you need to use madvr.

Thank you it is clear. Do you know if a feature similar to madVR is planned to be implemented ?

What I have read on this forum is jriver developpers are happy with the current implementation and as consequence they do not see any reason to add such a feature. I guess they use only TV or vidéo projection with 1.78 format. I can ensure you that this feature would be really great for your customer with a 2.35 screen format as me.

The reason I consider leaving kodi + mpchc + madVR is I can see in JRiver a very strong piece of software. With both features we are discussing here, I would be then able to stop using madVR for good.

I am not aware of their plans, there's been no indication it will be done but they don't tend to advertise such things in advance

For me personally, as someone who uses a lens, current implementation is great as changing AR during a film is a horrible thing so being able to press play and it just works consistently is what I want.

I have used an Isco Lens for years and I agree with you the current implementation is fine but when you use the zoom method you really need to keep a constant height and a process like madVR is perfect.

It would be great a JRiver developer answers my question, Thanks in advance.
