Playlist Export File Format
« on: November 21, 2024, 06:51:55 pm »

I am running MC30 and when exporting a playlist to a USB drive, I get the following file structure.

C:/Users/willi/Music/Sons of Ju--------   This fails when trying to use it.   I previously exported playlists and got the following format.

.\..\Music\Jackie Evancho\Dr---

The music is in the "Music" folder on the USB drive and this file structure works.

How do I get MC30 to export and create this file structure on the USB drive?

The "export playlist" function just creates the playlist file but doesn't copy any actual media file, so the paths will still point to their original location. As the USB drive letter is not C:, the paths have to be full and not relative. The playlist will only work when the USB stick is plugged in to the same PC as the media files.

You probably want to use the Sync function to actually copy the media files too - copying them manually won't work (but sync may recognize they're already there and use the correct paths):

The referenced articles addresses sync of handheld devices.  In MC30 this feature is not implemented.  The sync issue does not address the format of the m3u file that is exported to the USB drive.

If the m3u file is properly formatted, it will work in any device in which it is plugged.

You can sync to USB drive since v23 or so. An USB stick is technically an handheld device ;) Just add its drive letter as the articles mention and sync away.

If you export just the playlist to D: and leave the media files in C:, then necessarily the playlist needs to point to C: ... relative paths only work when the media files are on the same folder (or at least same drive) as the playlist. Sync function takes care of that.

It makes one frustrated and angry when the documentation describes windows and features that do not exist.

The JR export playlist says there is an option to select "Use relative paths".  That does not exist in MC30.
The JR documentation that on the main menu you can select Tools - Options - Handheld.  The Handheld feature does not exist on MC30.

Any questions I can supply screen shots.

I can assure you that both of those options normally exist. Perhaps your installation is corrupted?
