MP4 Tv Show videos in 8 Series so Se01 to SE08 E01 to E32 etc.
« on: November 20, 2024, 11:53:45 pm »

These all have the correct format to nominate them as a series.

But they end up as 280 plus movies in the movies section, not as series in the shows section under videos class. ??

So, if I just rename the .MP4 to .MKV, and re import they show up in the SHOWS section....which is where I would like them of course?
not sure if they play or not yet with the .MKV rename.

Rather than convert all 280 plus of these from mp4 to MKV, is there a setting in JRiver that will sort this out and correctly allocate these TV series to the shows section of the Video category?

Thanks Guys. Sorry if I am a bit slow here and am asking a question that has been answered 100 times, But I cannot find it anywhere.

OK, so here is an answer
Rename all of the files to .mkv
Then they load into the library as TV shows.
JRiver seems to know that they are .MP4 and says so
They seem to play fine. Amazing

MKV files are containers. They can hold MP4 video streams, AVI video streams, etc. Media Center is playing the video file, not the container.

Whether a file is seen as a movie or TV show in the library is dependent on the value set in 'Media subtype', Season number is set in the Season field, episode in the 'Episode'. Have a good look at the wiki regarding Tagging :https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tagging
There is no need to change the container type from Mp4 to MKV, just get your import rules/method correct and files will end up where you expect them to be in the library. Using the file name (Carnac) method can be very effective if the MP4 files don't contain the appropriate tags e.g. filename='Breaking Bad S05E16 Felina.mp4' will set the correct 'Series', 'Season', 'Episode' and 'Name' tags.
Hope this is helpful.
