library with unc paths, whato do if ip changes??
« on: December 05, 2024, 09:29:45 pm »

i setup my library which points to nas where all media is imported from using unc. if i wanted to change ip of the nas (where all my media is and jriver points to) is there a way i can just adjust ip? or would i have to go through the whole process of re-importing? i am looking to just go into a file and adjust ip and go from there.

The "Rename, Move, & Copy Files" tool is your friend.  You select the files to change, apply your rules, CHECK in the Preview it will do what you think you asked it to do.  CHECK again, then go for it.  Probs should do a small batch first to be sure.  The key bit is you want to make sure the top option is "Update database to point to new location" - see the PIC.

Also, FWIW - I use UNC Shares in the format of "\\MEDIAServer....." so then you don't have any hard IP to worry about.

so if server name is server 1 \\server1\share?

Much better approach, will re-do the library in that format! thanks a ton.

Correct.  :)

Hard-coded IP's should be avoided.  :(

Not always.
