JRiver Media Center 33.0.47 for Windows -- Available Here
« on: December 02, 2024, 08:37:56 am »

This is the latest build of JRiver Media Center 33.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download 64-bit build
https://files.jriver-cdn.com/mediacenter/channels/v33/latest/MediaCenter330047-x64.exe (works on 64 bit systems only)

Download 32-bit build
https://files.jriver-cdn.com/mediacenter/channels/v33/latest/MediaCenter330047.exe (works on all systems)

33.0.47 (11/27/2024)

1. Fixed: JRVR would disable HDR mode when stopping playback when it was not supposed to (eg. when the screen is always in HDR mode).

33.0.46 (11/26/2024)

1. NEW: Added an expand all and collapse all right-click menu to options pages when clicking a grouping item.
2. Changed: Updated JRVR HDR pass-through for Windows 11 24H2 to better support automatically enabling HDR mode, if needed.
3. NEW: Added support for three state tree expand buttons to show a mouse over image.

33.0.45 (11/25/2024)

1. Fixed: Corrupt DSD files could crash the decoder.
2. Changed: PNP will show on startup based on the "Pop up even when playback is stopped" setting.
3. Changed: PNP re-uses open popup and slightly delays first draw to try to avoid "flashing".
4. Changed: Reverted the DSP window shrinking added recently.

33.0.44 (11/21/2024)

1. Fixed: The WMA plugin could crash on paths over 260 characters.

33.0.43 (11/20/2024)

1. Changed: Update Tags works on files with slashes reversed from the normal for the platform.
2. Fixed: Decoding DSD files that were corrupt could crash MC.
3. Changed: Add option for PNP to pop up even when playback is stopped (defaults to no).

33.0.42 (11/19/2024)

1. NEW: Added a ZoneSwitch toolbar button to turn it on and off.
2. Changed: The new Playing Now DLNA tree item no longer includes hidden zones.
3. Changed: The DSP Studio window will grow to fit big pages but now restore to the previous smaller size when switching pages back.
4. Fixed: Fonts in PNP were not scaling properly for system display scaling.
5. Changed: Custom PNP size now includes system display scaling to match MC's UI sizing.
6. NEW: PNP skins can now specify OS-specific values.

33.0.41 (11/13/2024)

1. NEW: Custom view state settings (columns, sorting, sizing) are supported on clients. See Tools > Options > Media Network > Client Options to clear and revert back to server settings.
2. Changed: Updated the default options tree image to work better with dark skins.

33.0.40 (11/12/2024)

1. Changed: For video capturing (on Windows, using DirectShow), if the device does not offer "Video Capture Pin" property page, MC will save video output format data upon user exiting from "Video Capture Filter" property page. This solves the issue of MC never saving the output format that the user set on the property page.
2. Fixed: DirectShow device "DeckLink Video Capture" from Blackmagic Design did not work.
3. Changed: Updated the Netflix integration to avoid playback errors with shows with a certain audio configuration.

33.0.46 (11/26/2024)

1. NEW: Added an expand all and collapse all right-click menu to options pages when clicking a grouping item.
Nicely implemented, thanks.  Just seems to be a bug in the Tree subheaders for groups "Audio" and "Video":

Subheaders in those two groups stay in an "Expand All" state.  Their subgroup header response to an RMB click is to jump focus back to their last subgroup header which had focus, instead of presenting the "Expand All / Collapse All" menu.

However this response seems to depend on the particular expand/collapse history within the group.  Sometimes the menu appears, other times it does not.  Depends on whether at least one subheader has already been collapsed and re-opened.  It can also mysteriously revert back and forth between showing RMB menu and not showing RMB menu as history evolves.

We just weren't translating the mouse position right so options pages with stuff above were not working. Fixed next build. Thanks.

Getting to be a bad habit:
Version 33.0.43 Help > Update Channels (Latest) > Check for Updates... does not recognize that the new update to 33.0.47 is available.

Tested on Win 10 Pro & Home | MC 33.0.43

33.0.46 (11/26/2024)

3. NEW: Added support for three state tree expand buttons to show a mouse over image.
Very nice progress:
Hover works when mouse is over the menus collapsed state button.
Hover does not work when mouse is over the menus expanded state button.

I realize this behavior may be intentional and preferred by JRiver.  It's not bad, just not what I originally envisioned.  Need to play with it a while.

TEST:

Setup:
Drop the attached file Tree_ExpandButton_test.png into the skin directory.
In skin file main.xml, update line in <TREE> ... </TREE> section to
Code: [Select]
<Entry Name="ExpandButton" Bitmap="Tree_ExpandButton_test.png" NumberImages="3" />
Key based on observed behavior:
subimage 1 = small red dot = "COLLAPSED".
subimage 2 = larger bright green dot = "EXPANDED".
subimage 3 = largest dot, mixed red/green = "OVER".

Behavior:
1) Hover mouse over red dot (COLLAPSED) in the Tree pane, and it turns to red/green (HOVER), leaving menus collapsed.  OK.
2) Click red/green (HOVER) and it turns to green (EXPANDED) with expanded menus.  OK.
This much works nicely.  :)

3) Hover mouse over green dot (EXPANDED).  Nothing happens - NOT(?) OK.  This state should also show the red/green OVER subimage (?).
4) Click mouse on green dot (EXPANDED) and it converts to red dot (COLLAPSED) with collapsed tree items.  OK, except for absence of OVER state (?)

As expected, the same behavior occurs for expanding / collapsing a subgroup under a heading such as Audio, as well as Options > Handheld > Right side panel, and more generally anywhere in the Options menu where Tree Expand / Collapse is found.  :)

Does this need fixing?  Time will tell.  Gets better the more I try it  ;)

Ultimately, please provide a four-state button:  COLLAPSED, EXPANDED, OVER COLLAPSED, OVER EXPANDED.  It should accept NumberImages= "1","2","3", or "4".  The current behavior is good for case "3".

Matt - I've found an error/problem that exists in MC 33 and MC32.

If the RMB Expand All option for Audio in the Tree is selected the UI Freezes and the normal "Arrow" mouse pointer is replaced with the Arrow + Spinning Circle one and MC appears to go into an endless loop, I eventually forcibly closed MC after 5 Minutes.
The other thing that happened was the win NUC # fan, which hardly ever runs when MC is in use, was running at varying speeds until I forcibly closed the MC, including at speeds faster/louder than I have previously encountered.

The same problem may exist when selecting the RMB Expand All option is selected for the other expandable entries on the Tree.

I've emailed you the MC33 library that was in use at the time.

I find the same issue with Tree > Audio > RMB Expand All. Clicking in the main window while the circle is spinning pops up a Windows "Unresponsive program" error box that allows you to close MC.

Clicking the Audio Tree button to expand/collapse behaves normally.  Not seen for my other sections, like Playing Now or Images.

Most likely my library is considerably smaller than ET's - it's certainly very different.  So I don't think the issue is sensitive to the particular library, though it may be churning away on some library-related thing.

It's just really hard work to expand all for some views.

I added a timeout after 10 seconds to the next build.

I'm not sure we could speed it up much because it's running lots of searches on the database as it trundles down each item.

Another approach would be to just not offer expand all on library items. It works fine on a smaller library though.

How about not expanding so deeply in one shot.  Then allow user to further expand individual items with additional selection(s).

That's how my Audio views work - they expand down to the Artist or Album or Year level, then I can always pick a subgroup and expand it further.  This approach would require some predefined generic expansion grouping for Audio.  Since Audio Expand All currently crashes, I have no idea how it currently orders things!

A more complex approach would allow user to specify maximum number of items for a single expansion, then offer to show more if necessary.  Chunk it out.  But frankly, I don't see the utility of a huge expansion when you can define more targeted expansions for different views.

I think the problem is only with "Expand All Under ..."

I suppose it could only go a couple levels or something? But I think even just the first level is slow in the library sent to me. It's 1000s of items.

So "Expand All Under..." is trying to fully expand everything under it - sorry I overlooked that obvious point.  In general, that seems like a formidable and useless task.

Sounds reasonable to me to limit the depth, especially if it allows user to pick a level and manually expand it further.  Can MC intelligently estimate the amount of work before hand, and then limit depth based on that, chunking it out if necessary?  Small sections (such as Playing Now, or Playlists) would get fully expanded, while large sections (for example Audio is often very large) would be limited in depth, and possibly chunked, depending on estimated work involved.

I wonder if @ET really wanted to Expand All Under Audio, or was just pointing out a serious issue.

It could just not show "Expand All Under..." for library items. It could still show for other tree items. Library items can be incredibly slow and it's hard to know ahead of time how much work is involved.

I like that the most.

Next build:
Changed: Expand All Under in the tree is not shown for library views because they can be incredibly slow on large libraries.

Just noticed that the Play/Pause button on my Windows Taskbar Popup for MC (opened by mouse hover) does not show the Pause bitmap - it's stuck on Play.  All buttons work as expected, including Play/Pause, but the Pause image does not appear.

Not sure when this started or whether it's actually to be expected - maybe I've just gotten so used to the Playing Now Popup and have come to expect same thing here   :) .  It's independent of whether the Playing Now Popup is disabled or not.  The PNP buttons all appear and work normally.  Mini View works fine.  Occurs across at least a few different skins.

Can confirm, it always displays Play.

Thanks for the sanity check!

One other difference between Taskbar Popup and PNP is that the former uses it's own built-in button bitmaps, while the latter literally copies bitmaps from the active skin.

I would not insist on upgrading the Taskbar Popup buttons to look like the PNP, but I think it at least deserves a fix to include it's own Pause bitmap.  Otherwise it seems broken, after one has gotten used to the Playing Now Popup.

Some thoughts on merging Taskbar Popup with the PNP:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,140208.msg972643.html#msg972643.

The parsing speed of live stream is very slow, is there any way to improve it?
For example: .m3u8 | .ts | .mp4 and so on.
