A few days ago I installed MC9 beta just for the hell of it.  When I realized that my old MJ7 reg wouldn't carry through I uninstalled and reinstalled MJ8.  MC9 made tags that used to look like this:

TITLE = ********
DATE = ****
TRACKNUMBER = ***
MEDIA JUKEBOX METADATA =  
    <MPL Version="1.0">
    <Item>
    <ExInfo ReplayGain="1|0|-1|0|0|" Rating="0"/>
    </Item>
    </MPL>
ARTIST = ***
ALBUM = ****
GENRE = ****

look like this:

DATE = **
TRACKNUMBER = **
ARTIST = ***
TOOL VERSION = 9.0.98
GENRE = ***
TOOL NAME = Media Center
ALBUM = ****
TITLE = *****

//(these tags were read using foobar2000)


Now MJ8 and the monkeys audio software won't read any of the ape tags that MC9 altered.

Any ideas?
Is it possible to reformat the tags?

Did you try and uninstall MC and its Library files? Normally it will let MJ take back the library with no problem.

Sorry boy. I think it was The FOOBAR 2000 player, when you  run replaygain.  :-/

MC 9 now writes APE v2 tags to APE files.

Media Jukebox 8 won't read these newer tags, but "remove tag" will work.  Same in Monkey's Audio.

I hope to put a release of Monkey's Audio out sometime in the next month or two that uses the new APE v2 code, but for now, MC is a little ahead.

Which version of MC did this start with?  Is it only for Monkey's or will the new MPC plugin support APEv2 also?

Also, the Foobar developer has added APEv2 support in his player for MP3z.  You know...anytime you mention ID3v2 over at HA Forums everyone starts frothing at the mouth about how bad they are.  All the l33t Foobar users are using APEv2 for their MP3z  Any chance of that being added to MCs MP3 plug-ins?

I never actually created any ape files using MC.  It seems like it might have simply taken the existing tag information and converted it to version 2.  Is there any way to somehow 'undo' the process, changing the altered tags to their original state?

Depending on how you have your files named, you could probably use "Fill Properties From Filename" to rewrite at least some of the tag info.

Get info from filename if filled out.

If your file names do not have the info, go back to MC9 put all info in file name.

go back to MJ8 and get info from file name
