JRemote and MC33 HiRes audio streaming
« on: December 29, 2024, 12:54:14 pm »

Hi,

I bought recently Fiio KA11 lightning DAC for my iPhone 12 iOS 18.2. My idea was to stream through JRemote better quality than JRemote highest Audio transcode quality setting 320 Kbbs.
According to DAC specification it is capable of DSD256 and PCM 32bit/384kHz output. I have vast library with DSD and SACD files in library but without having JRemote Transcode Audio setting On I will get streaming error message on my phone? Is there something else which is limiting my streaming quality? I recall earlier JRemote or MC settings -> Media Network - Audio Conversion there was more settings? I think something about 24bit or so?

I made more testing today. Uploaded one DSD64 file and one SACD.iso on my iPhone. Application installed in iPhone was able to play them both without dac through iPhone own loudspeakers. Quality though was limited to 44.1k and 32bit. When I connected FiiO dac and my headphones to iPhone quality went up to 384/32 PCM which I suppose is max of my dac. But if iPhone is able to play local sacd.iso even without dac why on earth JRemote is limiting the playback quality to some 320mp3? Why I get streaming error message from JRemote if transcoding is not selected On in JRemote settings?! Don't tell me it is because of the transport link speed etc since there are 4G and 5G networks nowadays and if it would be the reason because of the transport speed then there would be gaps or some other problems than simple error message from JRemote before playback starts.
