I have recently discovered how to edit the file Tooltip window by creating 'Tooltip' custom field and adding Expression Language to the Calculated Data.
Just in the beginning phases and learning as I go through a few threads on the subject.
GOOD TIMES! This is really awesome!

I wonder if the same customization /editing method could be used for the ALBUM Tooltip that displays when hovering over an Album Thumbnail when I choose Album Thumbnail as my List Style?

My reason for asking has to do with my following use case.

I have been using MC for my Audio Book Collection.
My Audio Book library contains Audio Books as Single File M4Bs, Single File MP3s, and Multiple File MP3 Albums.
Because of the Multiple File MP3 Albums, I choose to display 'Album Thumbnails' in list style, so each Thumbnail is a single complete Audio Book.

The current Tooltip that comes up for an Album Thumbnail is very bland and lists the files contained.
I would LOVE to be able to customize this Album Tooltip like I am able to the File Tooltip to display rich formatted content from my many custom Audio Book Library Fields.

I have tried to create custom fields for 'Album Tooltip' and 'Tooltip Album' and edit like it is possible with 'Tooltip' but I found no joy.
 
Is it possible? Any Ideas?

Not the answer I was hoping for, instead I was hoping that I was just missing some easy tweak that someone on the forum would bring to my attention.

Maybe it is something that could be done in the future without too much trouble as the groundwork seems to be set
with how the track/file Tooltip works and can be edited already??

It is hard for me to believe that I would be the only user to find the ability to customize the Album Tooltip useful, but who knows?

Perhaps the devs can add an [AlbumTooltip] or [GroupTooltip] field... there have been similar requests in the past. I assume there are some technical difficulties because the Expression Language always works within a context of the "current file", and an Album/Group has multiple files. Most fields in the tooltip would just return "Varies", making it not so useful. A possible workaround would be to set the context to the first file in the group.

Ahhh that makes sense in that it very well could be a bit harder to implement than the track/file Tooltip.

I was hoping it would be easy as the Album Tooltip will return calculated data like Album File Size and Run Time.

I will try and watch out for when the team asks for the 'super easy suggestion' time when they ask users for quick and easy fixes/ adds to MC for some quality of life improvements that the team can implement without too much trouble.

I'll see what they say then... and if it can be done.

They responded and fixed something I suggested years back which I was incredibly grateful for!!!!

If I remember correctly, it was regarding how Album Artist (Auto) were sorted or something... they fixed in a jiff!
Made everything better for me!

In my use case all the files with in the Album/Group (a single Audio Book) would largely have almost all the same metadata such as Author/Narrator/Rating/Genre so I would assume it would not return (varies)?

I would honestly think that even in a Music Album use case, most of the useful Metadata that a user would like to browse in the Album Tooltip would be Album Specific. ?

One way to do, which I have done it, is in tag window to show me the information in a tooltip using expressions. Don't know if that will help you.

I found your example of putting the tool tip in the tag window very interesting and cool but was unable to duplicate your results.

I added Tooltip field to display in the Tag window.
It would pop up sans IMAGE that comes up in the 'mouse over' Tooltip - also had high level of transparency that made it hard to read.
 
It also only displayed for individual files. With an 'Album/Folder/Audio Book with multiple files it only returned 'Varies'

Add now IT WOULD display for individual files AND 'Album/Folder/Audio Book'
It also was easier to read as it did not have same transparency.

(EDIT - I discovered that the transparency issue is NOT related to any specific tootip, it is seemingly random with ALL Tooltip boxes showing opaque, to low or high level of transparency - different result whenever I click the field.) ??


However, it still would not display cover art image.
When I added 'IMAGE FILE' field to the expression, it only returns 'inside file' and still wouldn't show the image.

I am very new to using the expression language, so I'm sure I'm just missing something easy.
I will keep playing around with it,but would appreciate any tips you could throw my way.

To achieve that example, you need to do some things before.
1. Using an external application to be able to write track names in album mode;
2. Using fields and expressions to show the result.

About the transparency of tooltip, I'm not sure, but that can be modified inside XML page of MC. Another thing I have seen on tooltip, if you hover the mouse it shows much more as transparency, but if you move a few points of the mouse it will reduce that transparency, especially in window tag. Maybe is a bug or that MC need to do.
