JRiver Media Center (Mac) Doesn't Detect Sonos Speakers
« on: January 16, 2025, 05:24:44 pm »

My JRiver Media Center no longer recognizes my Sonos speakers, despite previously doing so. The Sonos speakers are viewable through the Sonos app on the MacBook Pro running JRiver. Other devices on my network can see my Sonos speakers and cast audio to them. In addition, the MO 4Media Android app recognizes the JRiver library.

My System:
JRiver Media Center 31.0.87 (Intel)
Mac OS Sequoia 15.2 (24C101)
Sonos system consists of 3x Play:1, each with these specs:
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 82.3-60160
Hardware Version: 1.20.1.6-1.2

Details (screenshots attached)

Media Network is enabled.
Four media servers are running:
  • Device Discovery Server
  • DLNA Media Renderer: MacBook Pro
  • DLNA Media Server: MacBook Pro
  • MacBook Pro (Library Server)
SSDP (Device Discovery) only detects my MacBook Pro.
My Mac's Firewall is OFF
Only the default Player is shown under Playing Now

Do you have an active VPN?

Thank you for the suggestion, but no.  JRiver Media Center does not recognize the Sonos speakers when the VPN is inactive.

Since you are seeing absolutely no packets something odd is going on. Perhaps post a log and your network settings.
MC only does IPv4 BTW.

My network settings look normal:
Configure IPv4 using DHCP
IP address of MacBook running JRiver Media Center: 192.168.1.102
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1
Not using IPv6

For reference, IPs of the Sonos speakers are:
192.168.1.112
192.168.1.113
192.168.1.136

Here is a log where I opened JRiver Media Center and ran SSDP. The log of SSDP activity begins around line 1327, stamped 0120664: 123145556287488. Are there specific activities I should try to get a log for?

Edit 18JUN2025: Added correct logfile

This issue is resolved.

I had to grant Media Center the ability to find and communicate with devices on my local network.

Under MacOS Sequioa, this setting is in under Settings --> Privacy and Security --> Local Network.

MC should have asked for that permission on install or when MacOS started requiring it. Thanks for the report back.
