JRemote 3, not connecting to Server
« on: January 22, 2025, 09:19:11 am »

Hello
My server is Mac Mini M2 and my JRemote 3 is installed on Samsung S8+ tablet. All my devices are in the same Wi-Fi network
When I input the access key for Jremote3 and User name and password for the mac-mini I get thr error message " Unable to authenticate the server" I tried also with the IP address of the mac mini-doesn't work.
I disabled/enabled  also the media network on JRiver 33 but that operation didnt create a new access key.
When I installed 1st the JRemote 2( few months ago) -all was ok and after few months-stopped working. Actually the JRemote 3 I installed it 3 days ago.

Please advice

Are you using the login and password you created for Media Network?  Read "Authentication" here.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Server

Try without authentication.

Also look at Bob's post here:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,140415.msg974053.html#msg974053

Hi Jim and Bob
Jim, thank you, the problem was the user name and password for the media network, I didnt know what were my credential. Now ok.

BOb, thank you for your advice, I cheked if JRiver is in the exceptions of the firewall- yes see attached file
I want to stream from my server( mac-mini) or from my Samsung Tab ( via JRemote3) to my streamer(Rose150B) attached to my Hi-Fi system and the streamer is also in the same network as my mac-mini( server) and Samsung tab( client)
The streamer (Rose150B) is selected in System Preferences( as shown in the attacment) and in Jriver33/player/Zone I added the Rose150B and there is a check mark. But I'm not able to stream.
I also configured " Use media network to share this library and enable DLNA" see attached file.
In my opinion to enable the streaming should tell JRiver 33 to what IP address should stream but I dont see any option to fill in the IP adress of the streame. The name of the streamer in Both Apple system preferences and JRiver 33 /player/zone is the same, please advice.

In JRemote, try adding a server first.

Then select the device you want to play to (small icon in lower left corner).

Also you might want to remove your screenshot or edit out the access key. You don't want to be posting that publicly.

Hi Jim
I dont have a problem to connect to my mac-mini (the server) from the client)
So I'm able to play the music installed on my server and  play it on my Samsung Tablet( the client)
My goal is to play the music installed on my mac - mini on the Streamer-Rose 150B.
I can't stream to my streamer, neither from my mac-mini nor from my Tablet  via JRemote. That  is the problem.

regards

That means that the device probably doesn't support UPnP / DLNA.

Per its specs, the Streamer-Rose 150B does support DLNA.

See Page 9 of the downloadable RS150B Owners Manual for instructions on how to activate DLNA.  It is not totally clear whether their implementation only works with a HiFi Rose app, or is a more general DLNA renderer which would also work with MC.  Obviously worth a try if you have not already looked at that.  Also search the manual for "DLNA" to find other info.

Hello,

Right-click on your DAC and select Right-click on your DAC and select "Associate with DLNA Server"
I'm seeing my DAC on the left tree of "Playing Now" but the option  "Associate with DLNA Server" is missing. Maybe this option was avalable in previous versions. I have MC 33.
When I click on a song to play it back, the song is never played by mt streamer, is played either by my headphone or the computer monitor, though the Streamer is shown as selected in System Preferences of the mac mini (the server)

Your computer is the server.  The DAC is a renderer.  So there is nothing wrong with seeing "Associate with DLNA Server" being grayed out.
Highlight your DAC under Playing Now, then make some selections and play them.

It is also useful to look at Playing Now > Overview.  You should see a column for the DAC with selections to be played.  There are lots of typical operations available from the RMB context menu in that column once it is populated.

If it's showing in System Preferences, it's not doing DLNA. MacOS doesn't support DLNA directly.
It's either directly connected via USB or it's AirPlay. Which is the case??

I don't think it is showing up under Playing Now.

Thank you Mark,

I'll see that right now. I checked in the user manual but I didnt find any topic about DLNA Server. My Rose is 150B. Maybe that setting is available for the newer models

Highlight your DAC under Playing Now, then make some selections and play them
.
1. the "Associate with DLNA Server" doesn't exist at all
2. I tried to play some music 1000 times. Every time the music is played by another device but never by the streamer. Before the version MC33 I was able to play music by the streamer but the volume was too low and bad SQ

PS: The Rose 150B is shown under player/zone and there is a chek mark.

Please make a screen shot of where you see it in MC and post that here. In the MC window:
Shift-Command-4
hit the space bar
Then click with the mouse and you'll get a snapshot of the MC window on your desktop.
Maybe downsize it with preview before attaching to a post here (optional to downsize)

Hi Bob
here is the attachment
If you hover over the the zone entries in the tree you will get information about the zone.
Zone Id
Zone Index
Device Address (for remote devices)
What do you get for that rose zone?

Zone ID:10010
Zone index:1

This is what I see when I hover my mouse
PS: The MC32 crash after every attempt to play a song. I meant when tried to stream

That's not a remote zone (DLNA).  [edit] Actually it's whether or not a Device Address shows up that determine whether or not the zone is local.
So I'd assume DLNA isn't enabled on your device.
You can play to it via AirPlay but it will be limited to 44.1k.
Set DSP studio for that zone to all 44.1k
Choose the device on the Mac (easiest in the Mac volume control)
Use the Volume control there to control the volume and turn off the volume control in MC
OR
Choose the system volume control in MC

Hello,
I'm seeing the DLNA icone on the screen of my streamer-Rose150B), so DLNA i active.
BTW I succeded to  stream from my Macbook aire (intel processor)- very unstable( The MC33 crash after every song) , the  volume is very low and when I turn up the volume,   the  SQ is awful, not acceptable
My main server is mac-mini with M2 processor-doesnt work at all for streaming
my version is 33.041 maybe I should download a better version, please advice

I think the MC just is not able to stream. For local use is perfect

If the Rose150B doesn't show up as a remote zone MC isn't seeing it as a DLNA device.
I corrected some info in my post above.
You need to see it in the MC tree under playing now as a device with an address or MC's not seeing it as a DLNA device.
If that's your ONLY DLNA device you need to make sure all of the network options on the Mac are correct as I detailed before.
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,140447.0.html
If they are correct you will be able to tell that in MC, in the tree:
Services & Plug-ins ->Media Network
You should see multiple servers running and updates in the window.
You can click on SSDP device discovery above the window to see the devices advertising themselves on your local network.

You need to check the whole list of things I asked you in the last message.
To verify, the device is on your network, and not attached directly to your mac?

Thank you Bob,

I give up
I will use the jriver only for a local music, not streaming. One day if u prepare step by step instruction how to stream music to a streamer  in the same network, please let me know. Have a nice week end

Best regards
