Access key on multiple machines
« on: January 31, 2025, 11:47:36 am »

Hi-
Not sure this is a Mac-specific topic since it involves an IdPi unit in addition to 2 Mac Minis.  I just set up the IdPi and generated the access key as per the instructions.  After using it for a couple of days I noticed that the original access key had been changed (not by myself) to the access key on one of the Mac Minis that I use a a streaming server nearly every day.  When I checked the other Mac Minis on which I have MC 33 installed, I saw that its access key was the same as the other Mac Mini and the IdPi.  I don’t know how the access keys were all synced but it doesn’t seem like this should happen.  For example, what if I want to stream from the IdPi but not one of the other Mac Minis?  I would think that separate access keys would be needed for that.  It is possible to change the access keys and keep them from being synced with each other while on the same network?

Thanks

Did you happen to restore the same library backup on each of them?

Thanks for the reply-

Yes, I did.  I guess that would explain it.  But that raises another question.  The reason for using the same library backup to restore the libraries on each machine was that I had created a new view entitled “Radio Stations” to store internet radio stations to stream.  Each time I update MC, that view is deleted.  Is there a way to preserve custom views when updating MC?

Custom views should be preserved unless you uninstall the old version before installing the new.

Thanks-

I haven’t deleted the previous versions of MC before installing new versions.  The custom view has been deleted the last 3 times I’ve done the updates.  Perhaps I’m doing something wrong but the install on a Mac is pretty simple.  Just open the dmg file and then drag the MC icon to the app folder and launch the app.

This might be a bug in the Mac version that we will look into.  In the meantime, in the Customize View dialog you can save/load views to/from files so you can do it manually.
