New User Questions

Hi everyone, I installed the trial version of the latest version of JRiver and I wanted to ask you a few things before purchasing... My goal is just to play music with my system and I have some doubts, first of all I ask if the license is annual or if by purchasing it it is forever. What I would like to do is play music (I have many dsd files in wavepack and I saw that JRiver plays them), I use a PC with Windows 10 (I will probably switch to Win11 but I have to change my PC) and I would not like to use any monitor, mouse, keyboard etc... basically turn on the PC (after setting that JRiver opens when Windows starts), open the control app for Android and do everything from there, then create playlists, navigate by folders (I have my entire library on NAS and it is important for me to navigate by folders), in short do everything with the app, including turning off the PC when I finish listening. Is all this possible with JRiver? Thanks

License for version X is permanent.  New versions are released periodically and it costs some nominal amount to upgrade to the new version.  AFAIK, there's no guarantee that old versions will still work, but you don't have to upgrade or pay an annual fee.  Updates fix bugs and provide new features, and since I use this  app all the time the cost to upgrade is minimal in the greater scheme of things.

The license will be transferable to your new PC if you upgrade to Windows 11, so no worries there.

I don't know what you mean by "I would not like to use any monitor, mouse, keyboard". It's a windows app, so you kinda need this hardware it access the UI.  There's a version for Linux if you want do do everything via the command line.

It can run headless without a monitor or peripherals, but would highly recommend setting up remote desktop or some form of remote access solution so you can perform maintenance or do updates and whatnot.

Maybe I didn't explain myself, I mean using JRiver as a music player, turn on the PC and make sure that jriver opens when Windows starts and then do everything via the Android app. With foobar I do this, I only turn on the PC without using any monitor and then with the Android application I listen to music.....

You can set it to start when Windows starts. JRiver doesn't run as a service, so a user needs to login to Windows for it to start.
There are ways to make Windows start and log a user in without any user interaction  but I don't remember the detail.
