Thank you for your answers!

Is the JRiver database located on a fast drive (SSD, for example)?  It should not be on a NAS.

Media server PC is always on, sleep/hibernate disabled. Drive is standard HDD, it's on media server PC, it spins up fast and power saving for HDD's (turn off after xx minutes) is turned off. JRiver media server service is always on, I use it for JRemote3, or panel outside of local network it always works without any problem.. Access is via Access key.

Should I try anyway with a smaller library?

Thanks!

Yes, to see if the load is timing out somehow.

I loaded small library last night and it worked that night, but this morning it defaulted again on local empty library..

Maybe a silly question but have you checked in the Settings - Library Settings menu to ensure that "Always load the default library at launch" is unchecked?
