Mono movie audio not decoded correctly
« on: April 08, 2025, 05:17:53 pm »

I tried watching two different documentaries ("Gates of Heaven" and "Vernon, Florida”) and noticed problems with the audio. I reviewed the audio track format and saw that it was PCM data that was 24/28. Initially it was in an MKA container but I tried converting it to FLAC before I started playing with the MC settings. It failed in the exact same way as a FLAC file so I continued debugging that configuration.

My main zone is configured with 7.1 channels in the DSP settings and the audio from these movies would only be heard from what sounds like the LFE track. The audio was very muted and distorted so that I could not understand the words. I tried changing the DSP settings to mono, stereo and 2.1 but none of these worked correctly either. At one point I did get recognizable audio back but it was from the right channel and center channel while configured in 2.1.

I tried playing the same movie in my secondary zone which has DSP configured with number of channels “same as source”. Here the movie played backed withe mono soundtrack coming from the left and right channels and I could watch the movie normally.

I collected a log file from starting Gates of Heaven in the main zone and have attached it to this message. You can search for that title to find where playback starts in the log file.
