Author Topic: Are Failures of Copy & Paste and/or of Drop & Drop DE (Desktop) Specific?  (Read 30 times)

One of these questions I have asked previously; no answer. So, asking again with possibly related query.

1. Does JRiver on Linux accept files dragged and dropped from file manager in GNOME, say into the now playing queue or a playlist, which does work for instance with macOS Finder? It fails in KDE.

2. I often have occasion to copy & paste text from and / or to JRiver and other applications— say, a text editor or web browser. Works fine in Finder, for instance. However in KDE it's a total fail; can only copy & paste within JRiver. This is not unique to JRiver; some other apps also don't work with this, for instance Chromium, which may or may not be of particular relevance.

These issues exist whether logged into Wayland session or X11.

I ask if these things, and maybe other basic functions, perhaps work in GNOME or Cinnamon or some other desktop environment(s) because

  • though I prefer KDE for its customizability I might consider switching for above features if ever doing a fresh Linux install
  • if they do work with other desktops, should it be expected they might one day work in KDE?

thanks

Last I checked (it's been a few years) I don't believe drag and drop into MC itself has ever worked on Linux. In the beginning copying and pasting used to rely on autocutsel, and I think Bob changed it at some point where it doesn't need that anymore. In my own experience copying and pasting text can be flaky at times. It's one of the things about MC for Linux that hopefully gets more love at some point in the future. KDE is known to have issues with MC in general.

Bob will probably know for sure the current status of copy and paste (and drag and drop) in MC for Linux.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.
