Enhancement requests for external tools support
« on: January 09, 2003, 12:09:48 pm »

External tools is one of the most important new features of MJ9, but more support is needed to make it useful. The ultimate goal should be being able to do everything within MJ

RIGHT CLICK ON DIRECTORY
Many Mp3 tools, act on a directory rather than a file. There should be an external tool context menu on right click of

1) MJ Explorer directories
2) Location View Scheme Folders

that send the whole directory to an external tool.

Also the tools "open directory externally/rename" could be built-in.

RIGHT CLICK ON A SINGLE FILE
Right click on a single file could be enhanced, by sending the directory of the file, to the external tool rather than the file, i.e. using:
externaltool.exe [Directory]

RIGHT CLICK ON MULTIPLE FILES
Another important improvement could be sending multiple selected files to an external tool i.e.

externaltool.exe [Files]  (rather than [File] ).

how the format of  [Files] should be (or whether you should support multiple formats) should be decided after looking how the mp3 tools work. For example I wounder how you can send multiple mp3s to winamp.

In multiple file case,

     externaltool.exe [Directory]
     externaltool.exe [File]

may be send only information of the first file to the external.

RIGHT CLICK ON ALBUM IMAGE ON THUMBNAIL VIEW
Should work like right click on Multiple Files

Agree about the sending of multiple files.  Also needs the ability to send images to an external editor if MJ is not going to include editing options in itself...

I am bumping this up because it didn't get attention of MC  ::) .
You don't have to implement everything really  ;), there are lots of tools out there (some free).

"I just want to replace my OS with MC (c) ", is that to much to ask for? Imagine a computer where you don't have to leave MC ever.
