Composers, please
« on: January 06, 2003, 05:09:48 pm »

I posted the following in MJ8.  Belongs here, I think.

I'd just like to add a vote for a composers column to accomodate that function of the iPod.  Surely would help us classical buffs.

That said, I have made the switch from MMJB and then ephPOD to a registered copy of MC9.  Great program!

I've put the composer in the Custom1 field and added a view scheme under "Audio" calling it "Composer".  It works, but it would obviously be better to have a standard solution compatible with the Mac solution.

Luigi,

Sounds like a good idea, but in v. 9.0.88, I don't find any "Custom" fields in the drop down list.   :'(

You can add any fields you like in version 9.  Look under "Options -> Tree and View"

We may add built-in support for composer before release...

Thanks, that works within MC9, but it doesn't seem to transfer it to the iPod.  Any way to do that?

I don't know about the Ipod: does it manage the Comment or the Notes fields? If yes you could use those fields.

You can find the Custom1 field by opening the file properties window and then clicking on Extended.

I'm a newbi.  I like your software and expect that I will purchase it once you release the fianl version.

I gather from reading the message boards that you added composer as a standard MC9 field in the database.  I assume that you are reading the TCOM field in the IDV2 tags to get it.  Correct?

I would additionally request that you add the TPE2 ("Band/Orchestra"), TPE3 ("Conductor"), TIT1 ("Group Description") and TIT3 ("Subtitle") tags as well.  This would appeal to Jazz as well as classical music collectors. Its frustrating that players on the PC market do not make use of these fields.  I'll switch to whichever company incorporats them.  Once they are more visible, I suspect that most music collectors will want to make use of them - not just classical lovers.

The Composer tag is now handled with MC 9.0.96 and iPod Plug-in 3.0.42
