Volume leveling?

I can't seem to use the volume leving function in build 9.089
selecting some mp3s then right clicking, selecting options doesn't seem to do anything. I analysed my mp3 collection but can't seem to do anything with it. Am I being dumb or is it broken.
Also if I normalize the volume of my library, will those normalized levels be transferred to my ipod when I transfer them?

did you turn on replay gain in the ESP, that is required for it to work.

on the left side of MJ\MC the ESP is on the right side of the player controls, you can also set the EQ there.
