I installed MC9 over MJ8 Registered (PLUS Version).
Here is what is listed in the help->Registration info...

Requesting my registration key from the J River web site still mention a MJ8 registration.
Quote from the FAQ on the Web site :

A Media Center version 9.0 license will also work with Media Jukebox version 8.0.  An MJ version 8 license purchased by December 3, 2002, will work with MC version 9. MJ Version 8 licenses purchased after December 3, 2002, can be upgraded to MC version 9.  The current upgrade price is $12.98.  On release (February, 2002), the upgrade price will be $19.98

MJ Version 8 license will work with MC version 9 : Will it work like a MC9 license or like a MJ9 license (Product not available actualy)?

Do I need to buy an upgrade key or only user who bought MJ8 After december 3 must pay an upgrade price ?

That means you don't need to upgrade -- your version 8 license will work with 9 because you bought it before the cutoff date.
