there has to be a workaround to play audio files on clie thru mj9 interface rather than the clunky sonic stage supplied

I connect the Clie via MS Import -- then it shows up under CD, DVD, & Handheld.  Click on the drive (clie) and you will see music files.  I have had fine success playing tracks this way and also uploading the tracks to my memory stick using Media Center 8 &/or 9.  It's handy for sure!  I have never used Sonic Stage.  Why load another piece of software I don't need!

Your best bet is to ask your question in the ClieSource forums. http://www.cliesource.com  I use a Lexar Memory Stick reader/writer for my Clié NR-70

I think the files have to go to some particular folder. I seem to remember something about this from a while ago. Hopefully 10sne1 can chime in on this with a solution.

Yes the mp3 files have to be loaded into the right directory.  It is PALM/PROGRAMS/MSAUDIO.  Media Jukebox will not automatically put them there...you'll have to open the folder and select this location to drag them to.  Let me know if I can be of any more help.
