new users - 2 questions
« on: January 04, 2003, 10:11:20 am »

Hi..
I am trying out version 9 for the first time...I hope you can help me with some questions.
1)  With Windows Media Player..if I clicked an MP3 on a web site, it would start playing it as it downloads it.  Why does MJ not do this?  If it does, how do I do it?
2) Will version 9 replace version 8...or will they be two seperate products?
3) I like it so far....however, I'd like to know what makes some of you prefer it over Windows Media Player?
thanks in advance..

are you sure that WMP downloaded the mp3?
Not only played it?.

After that you can play the song in any player NOT  connected to internet?

thanks for the replies...
what I meant was that in Internet Explorer, if I click an MP3 link (to an actual mp3 file) - WMP will start playing it immediately, buffering it as it downloads it.  can i do it with MJ?

Currently not with Version 9 Of Media Player.

It Is Still In Beta, And J River Said They Will Suport It When The Media Player 9 SDK Comes Out From Microsoft.

Yes.  First open WMP and go to it's options or preferences.  Go to the Formats tab and uncheck all of the file types that you do not want WMP to play.  Then go to MCs Tools/Options/File Associations, and make sure you put a check mark in all the file types you want it to play.

Thanks for the reply...I tried the above..and it still downloads first.  MJ plays it....but only after it is download fully.  WMP used to play it live as it was downloading....I even tried the /prefetch tag in the file associations for windows...

Don't know, but I think ravenmad's questions was how to get MC to exhibit the same behaviour WMP does when you click on a link to stream an MP3 (not a WMA).  From what s/he is saying, when s/he uses WMP and clicks on a link to stream an MP3, WMP buffers 20 or 30 seconds of the file and then starts playing as it's downloading.  When s/he tries the same thing with MC, the file doesn't start playing until the entire file has buffered.

As to any other suggestions as how to change MCs behaviour, I don't know.  I rarely listen to streaming audio, and when I do I use Winamp because it loads faster.

hi...
these are not streaming mp3's....in WMP, if you click a link to an .mp3 file...not a streaming file, an actual mp3...WMP will begin playing it immediately.  that is all I'd like MJ to do...is this possible?
