how do i move a library?
« on: January 04, 2003, 03:54:23 pm »

I want to move my music collection to another hard drive.  How do I modify all the associated library information to reflect this?  The only way I can see to do this is to go into each album directory, select the tracks and use the "Move/Copy Disk File..." context-menu option.  But, that would be very time consuming when dealing with hundreds of albums.  Isn't there some easier way to tell MJB that my entire library now resides on a new root directory?

the best way to move files is to select them in MJ and Use the Move Option.

this is just as fast as using Windows Explorer.

By Using MJ\MC to move your files if you have any plays lists etc.... you do not lose them

I don't see why you think this is "time consuming"

I moved 25,000+ files today from drive G: To Drive E: doing it this way with no problems

How did you maintain the directory structure?

Well If your trying to Put them In A Dir Like Album Name Etc...

Maybe You Should Use The Rename Function (It Will Move Also)

Select Files, Select Tools, Select Rename

Then Set Up The Dir Mask And Then The File Name Mask

My Dir Mask Was:

[X] Directories:

Base Path: E:\My Music\
Dir Rule: [YEAR]

[X] FileName:

FileName: [ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]
