For the mp3 encoder options, there are currently only the options to set the bitrate, and the quality settings.
I know there is also the option for external encoder which then allows for you to specify your own parameters but what I was wondering is if it would be possible for more simple clickable options to be added to this.

The most basic one being Mode (stereo, joint stereo,  mono etc).

Others would include some of the options that are presented in RazorLame.

I'm aware that this is a program designed purely for encoding to the mp3 format with and therefore specialises in it but it would seem like quite an easy option to add to MJ that would make it 'seem' more powerful as it would give users more options without making them know the command parameters by heart.

Someone said a while back that MJ was meant to be a jack of all trades and wasn't meant to specialise in any but to me this seems like it needant be true.
Giving a few more options to the encoder options would make it as powerful as any 'specialist' encoder program.

For ripping it already possess most of the options that any ripper has. Still however lacks options to set how the ripping and encoding is done (ie: rip all tracks and encode each track in background as the next is being ripped, rip all tracks then encode all tracks. etc). It currently has only either encode directly as ripping, or rip, then encode, then rip,....

Tagging still doesn't have all the features necessary to enable it to compete with programs like Dr Tag (ie ability to differentiate and copy between v1 and v2 id3 tags, the ability to save multiple covers etc) but it's getting closer all the time.

I believe MJ could easily be a master of all trades rather than a Jack of all trades and I'm sure that's what you guys are aiming for anyway.

Amen. i would love to not have to use joint stereo which is ok for low bitrates but unnecessary for higher ones.

I thought Lame would use this if it needs it and when the bit rate goes up it will use stereo?

i thought i read that someplace not sure if it is true

In Lame this is an option that can be set. As far as I know it is not done by the encoder without the user setting it. I will usually encode using alt-standard preset setting which is a variable bit rate that centers around 192 bps which is gives a good compromise between file size and quality.>
