What do you folks think of MP3Gain and can MJ9 do batch normalization?

Yes, but we make changes at playback / burn time so files don't need to be permanently changed.

That's a lot slicker solution for formats like APE since scaling a 16-bit number to another 16-bit number is lossy.  However, doing it at playback time preserves the lossless nature of the file AND reduces the loss because of MJ's 32-bit playback engine.

To use replay gain in MJ, just pick some files and do an "Analyze Audio."  Then, use "Replay Gain" in the DSP Studio during playback.

Thanks Matt.  I guess I would be looking to adjust and resave the files.  My issue is not with MJ, it is with my portable mp3 player (Ipod) and the varying volume levels from song to song.  However, I would not want to jeapordize the quality of my files.  Maybe I will just punt on this one as I am not familiar with MP3Gain, or maybe I will copy over my 2500 songs to another drive and experiment.

A quick suggestion here:

Why not have a small checkbox lying around with "Save Replay Gain with file"? Or something :)

Sorry, couldn't help commenting :)
