Intensity
« on: November 24, 2002, 08:48:15 am »

Im trying to understand intensity. It seems to open up scope for some interesting smartlists. I understand this is never going to be an exact science. 2 questions though:

1. Intensity is a measure of the 'loudness' of a song I guess. Is it the peak value for the song or the average volume?

2. Confused about the relationship between replay gain and intensity. Ive noticed that my recordings which are generally louder (recorded better or whatever) seem to get higher intensities, regardless of how 'loud' or 'quiet' the song. For example Marvin Gayes 'Whats Going On' is as 'intense' as Queens of the Stone Age, i.e. 5. Does the intensity calculation take into account the replay gain value for the file, or just the file data? Or, indeed, should it? The more I think about this the more I feel I may have confused what intensity is.
