What's to stop someone from writing an output plugin that would transcode protected WMA's?

*Please note: I'm not a minion of the demon Gates, just curious

In the US, that would be the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

Touche, but I meant more from a technical standpoint. I seem to recall Winamp being forced to change so only directsound out and no DSP plugins could be used with WMAs (protected or not).

And as a Canadian I'd like to point out that MJ has lots of international users :). If you consider Canada a country :P
