Media Keyboards
« on: October 31, 2002, 11:08:07 am »

Hi,

I've tried both the popular Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro (with several versions of IntelliType software installed), and the equally popular Logitech Freedom Cordless (with several versions of the iTouch software installed) and all produce the same symptoms when trying to use the special, extended MEDIA CONTROL keys with Media Jukebox 8 and 9-beta:

1 - Intermittent transmission of keystrokes to the program,
2 - Pause and Stop are intermittently confused with each other,
3 - Intermittent delays of up to 5 seconds (between pushing Play and having the selected track actually play),
4 - Crashing of the IntelliType/iTouch 'Processes'.

None of these things happen with Windows Media Player 8 or 9-beta.

I think that solid, reliable interaction with popular media-keyboads like these should be a top priority in the next release - the people who actually BUY Media Jukebox are most likely 'advanced users' and will expect these things to work.

Media Jukebox should work correctly with the Media Keys if it has the focus.

If it doesn't have the focus, MJ expects the keyboard driver to forward messages to it.  Some drivers do, some don't.

We developed a catch-all solution, but it was too late into 8's development to feel comfortable releasing it.

However, version 9 should address this issue before its final release.

Thanks d_pert.
