I'm using MJ 8.0.393.  When I edit mp3 or ogg tags in the content view (in the grid area) of Media Library or Playing Now, the tag appears to take.  But when I Update Library or shut down and restart MJ, the changes I made are not there and the tags have reverted back to the state they were in before I edited them.

Tagging works fine through the Media File Properties box.  I have the mp3 input plugin's option set to save tags.  How can I get the changes to stay?  Is there some other option I need to have turned on?  Is this a bug?

You sure they're not Read-Only? I just did the same operation you have been and it accepts (and writes) the changes to the file. I'm running W2k SP3 and B393 as well, so....

edit > check your Settings>Options>General>Importing & Tagging and make sure "Update tags when file info changes" is checked

The files are NOT read only; I have succesfully tagged with the Media File Properties dialog box and Winamp, and eMusic Tag Editor.

"Update tags when file info changes" IS checked.

If it works for you, there must be some other option I don't have checked.  Is there some command that must be executed to make the save take?  After entering the info, just go to next cell, or hit "Enter" to set the changes?

I think this is true in MJ8, sometimes depending on how you do it.

I noticed that when I used MJ8

I have not noticed that in MJ9

I think i do have a problem with 4 mp3s and i think that is because they were taged with and old version of Music Match and that will display the same problem like your talking about.

did you encode the Mp3's with Music Match or download the files that do not change from the internet? they maybe Music Match ver 5 and before Tagged. they did not use the same standard and it looks like it is changed but when you load it back up the tags are non changed.

Just clicking elsewhere or hitting Enter seems to force the save (in fact, save happens immediately for there is HD activity). I've checked for other options that may be related...haven't found any. The King may have something there.

I thought King might be on to something about the previous tagging with another tagger; some of my files were not of my own making.  I tried again with some files that I encoded and tagged myself and got the same results.

The only way I can be sure of MJ tagging to stay, is to go through the Media File Properties method.

So, again, I'm clueless as to how to tag from the content view and be sure it will be permanent.

if you load the files into a test editor, and go all the way to the end.

If you see any tags just up from the end of the files (not the last 128 bytes) but before that, it was taged with an early version of Music Match.

the only way to fix that is to use a program to clip off the last .1 seconds of the file (or so)

As I said, MJ acts this way with files of my own making and tagging; Music Match is NOT used on my system.  Just to be sure, I loaded one of the affected files into a text/hex editor and checked the end - no tags there, just the "lame3.92" signature.

there was ways of doing it from the grid and MJ would not save.

Known about it for sometime.
