Suggestion: Playlist "recently imported"
« on: September 23, 2002, 12:20:23 am »

Hi again,

could you please include the "old" playlist "recently imported" into MJ9 again? I used it to check for not tagged files and so on and usually deleted the songs from the playlist after finishing them.

Using the new once, I have to copy them manually to a created playlist to do the same. This is one step of work more than it has to be, I think.
Also the new playlists tend to become oversized, if I re-import the whole collection and rip a CD afterwards. I know I can solve this using an own smartlist with filtering in "date imported", but this is also a step more to do.

Thanks,
Mirko

While I agree that there needs to be a Recently Imported that only handles the last session of MJ, couldn't you do what you want with one of the Task Smartlists?

Like "Task -- empty properties"?

I have found now way of finding out, if replay gain has been done. And I definitly cannot determine, if the files are moved to the correct location (I organize them in specific directories, but rip to another).

There's a smartlist for that, too.

Task - Needs Audio Analysis

Or something like that. I don't have it in front of me at the moment.

Ok. Then the only thing not cleared is how to find the once not renamed. I guess there is no smartlist here :-)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if the files your interested in are all in a specific folder, for instance, I create a New folder for files I download, then you can create a smartlist with folder=new and that should do the trick.

Yes. This should do exactly what I like. Even so. I personally would prefer the old way. Call me stubborn :-)

Hey, like I said, I agree completely. I really miss the old Recently Imported. I could see where the new method could be even more helpful, though.

Slap me if I'm wrong, but check out this reasoning:

IF there is/was a task list (like an auto generated todo list, for instance MISSING TAGS: a-song.mp3, MISSING ART: another-song.mp3 etc) or if you could at least show files with missing album art/tags etc, then you don't have to use recently imported for that.

IF you can sort files by 'import date', then you don't have to use recently imported to show that neither.

Now I don't know if it's included or will be, since I'm a bit afraid to test MJ9 at home and have no license at work...but let me know! :)

Cheers!

The recently imported list has been modified. You can show in the past 24hrs, the last week, last 100 entries. You can modify it however you want.

There is an option in v9 to clear the Recently Imported list on exit. If this is going to say, then they just didn't get around to completing that part.

Sometimes in v8, the list would be gone and just creating the playlist would make it work again. Try that, see if it imports into the playlist.

I think the auto smartlists provide more control on what you want to do...be it analyze, tag, album art, etc.

I, for one, am in favor of doing away with all three "system" playlists:   Top Hits, Recently Played, and Recently Imported.

Thanks to the sweet new options in smartlists, these three system lists have become increasingly redundant; last 100 imported, last week's imported, etc. have taken their places in a big way.

My "Top 40" smartlist shows only tracks with a playcount greater than 0, sorted by number plays, limited to 40 entries.  Who needs a "Top Hits" anymore?

They were great for v8, but in v9, I think they're quickly becoming little more than clutter in my playlists folder.

Check out Playlists > Auto-Smartlists (Audio)

You'll find a bunch of auto smartlists that start with "Task"
