Track ordering Question?
« on: December 29, 2002, 06:51:35 am »

I am trying to reorder the sequence of the trackes in an album folder.  I have 9 tracks that are not in the correct order as was on the original album.

So far I have deleted the album folder from the artist and then used File/Open Media File, selecting the tracks from the list, in the order I want them to appear in the album folder.  But when I open the album folder the track order is always the same, not the order in which I selected the tracks.

What determines the order in which tracks are placed into the database album folder?

I realize that I can make a playlist and the playlist can be ordered in the order that I arrange, but how do I force the order in the original album folder?

When I rip a Cd the the track order in the album folder is always as it was on the CD.   The tracks in question came from a Cd that a friend of mine burned himself.  The tracks on that cd are not in the correct order like the original album.  As a result when I ripped the CD into mp3s and created an album folder, the order of the mp3 tracks in that folder are in the same wrong order as the home made cd that my friend made.

I know this is a rather nitpicky issue, but I am an orgnization freek.  I have to have all my ducks in a PERFECT row or I am not happy.  That is why I love MJ so much.  It gives me the oranizational tools I need to keep my music library well organized and easily accessable.

I am sure there must be some trick that I am missing.

Any help on this rather minor issue would be appreciated. And THANK YOU in advance or your help.

In a playlist it will maintain the order you set. In all other cases it goes by your settings in Settings>Options>Tree & View settings>Sorting.

A good way to do it (from first to last) is Artist, Album, Track Num, Name (all ascending). I have a mixture of ogg's & mp3's so I put Type in after Artist.

Thank you!!!!   Now I get it.   The track number is automatically assigned when you rip the CD into mp3s.  I never notice that because it is so far off on the right of the track listing window that you don't pay much attention to that data which you can not see on your screen.  so what I need to do is assign track nmbers to teh tracks in the order I want to see them in the listing window and that will solve it.  Thanks much for the help.  I figured iit was some subtle thing I was missing.
