Plugin for DVB-s?

Hello,

I'm using Media Center 9 for quite some time now (started with v7). If I could watch digital video broadcast, MC would be the ideal solution for my HTPC.

I've searched the forum and DVB support seems to be a long way to go still... As I am a professional software developer, I am thinking about starting something on my own.

My basic idea would be some dummy file format (e.g. .dff) which stores the information for a TV station) and a corresponding codec which would be responsible for .dff files. Instead of really decoding something, the codec would just tune in the station specified in the file (e.g. cnn.dff) and hand this information to something like DVBcore which would handle the control over the DVB card.

Any comments about this? Any better suggestions?
