SmartMove - New Interface Plugin
« on: September 26, 2002, 08:15:51 pm »

Get it on the interface plugins page. It allows you to move your files (especially large numbers of files) without having to load them into the Media File Properties dialog. You can also update the location of your tracks without actually moving the files (similar to running MJ's Search & Replace on the Location field, but again: you don't have to load the files into the Properties dialog, which we all know is a little time consuming).

No warranties, of course. I did due-dilligence regarding error handling, but it was a late-night project, so you never know....

Skidoo,

I have added your plug-in and installed the vb runtime files as well.

Still, I don't know how to use Smartmove! How can I find it in MJ ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Salut Philippe,

Dans la fenêtre de gauche tu trouves
  • CD,DVD,Handhelds
  • TV Tuner
  • Web Media
  • Plug-ins

Yves.

Merci Yves pour ta réponse.

But when I try to install Smartmove I have the following error message ...

"Impossible to import C:\PROGRAMS \PLUGINS\MENUS\...\SMARTMOVE.REG: the specified file is not a register script. You can import only register files."

Here is my system profile ...

Install Path: C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Unknown 1001 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 260 MB, Free - 49 MB

wnaspi32.dll: 4.60 (1021) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-1999 Adaptec, Inc.

Please help!
Thanks
Philippe

PS. Peux-tu me confirmer cela? Bon dimanche. ? ?

that's something I can't answer.
When clicking on the SmartMove link on the MJ plug-ins page (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/downloads/hit.pl?SKIN=633&download=plugin&version=8&url=http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/plugins/smartmove083.mjp) I got the automatic installation package open : no problem for me.

I can confirm that it's the quickest way to manage files move without having to reload and re-set your MJ database (pay attention for your Cover Arts folder)

I'm on W98 SE. But I intend to install W2K in a couple of days as I am fed up with all the crashes.

So, I will keep you inform when I install the new OS.

Thanks anyway Skidoo. Merci également à toi Yves.

Yeah, I'm going to try to update the package soon so that it'll install fine on Windows 9x and NT4.

For the fellow nerds among us, when you export registry branches from the version of regedit that comes with XP or 2000, it writes them out as unicode, instead of regular old 8-bit ASCII. The versions of regedit on 9x and NT4 choke on these files. But XP and 2000 will import 8-bit ASCII files fine.

Skidoo,

I have now installed W2K. So I installed your plug-in again along the vb6 runtime files.

Here is the message I get when I try to use Smartmove: "Interface Plugin 'Smartmove' must implement IUnknown interface."

Thanks for your reply. :)

That seems to be the catch-all (and decidedly non-descriptive) error MJ throws up when a plugin raises an error. I don't know what to tell you. I know you don't want to hear this, but it works fine for a bunch of other people running Win2K and MJ.

i have found (i think) comes up when a user may have VB runtime files, but the controls within the program are not on the users computer.

are you using the listview or other controls in the project? and are they included in the ZIp file?

I never loaded the program but thats what i have found in the past.

KingSparta,

Here is what i have in the vb runtime zip file ...

- msvbvm60.dll
- ADVPACK.DLL
- ASYCFILT.DLL
- COMCAT.DLL
- OLEAUT32.DLL
- OLEPRO32.DLL
- STDOLE2
- vbrun60
- W95INF16.DLL
- W95INF32.DLL

As for the controls you mentionned, I have to admit I don't know what you mean! The same for the term "Project". Please explain. Thanks.

Philippe

it does not matter what run time files you have there are other files that a VB or C++ project will use. and if they are not on your system it just will plain not work.

and i can't tell you what controls are used in this project.

but if the programer creates a build it will tell the programer what files are needed. since MJ uses a other than normal install they must be included into the zip file.

Here is A MJ Install file for one of my projects

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
files required to run not in the VB runtime files
File7=COMCAT.DLL
File7Action1=COPY_SYSDIR
File8=mscomctl.ocx
File8Action1=COPY_SYSDIR
File9=TABCTL32.OCX
File9Action1=COPY_SYSDIR
Finally, I am able to use Smartmove  ;D ;D ;D
And this was possible just after installing Office 2000!!! I guess the installation has just added the required files mentionned by KingSparta.
Thanks to all for your help.
Philippe
PS. It only remains for me to try this plug-in ....
Hello all, I have a question regarding smartmove.  Is there a way to add the Genre field so that I can move by Genre by Artist by album?
I find that setup works best for my large database and unfortunately I found that out when I installed 20 gigs onto my Archos.
mj/mc  -you mean 9.0 beta?  I'm running xp pro and it seems i can't get both to work side by side?  one install ruins the other.  i've been using 8 as its more reliable.
Oh, I thought that they would.  When I bought 9 (my 2nd purchase as I owned a 6 license) they were supposed to both work if I copied certain files but they never did.
Its Ok, I guess I can install 9 to move my files the way I want - then install 8 for my everyday listeniing.
Soo, do I drag & drop in 9 or is it in tools?
Forget question - I guess reading the manual can enlighten you.  I see how - I must say though, its not so obvious.  So I can use version 8 or 9.
