My MediaJukebox player will not play or rip CDs.  It will play songs on my hard drive and it will burn CDs on my hard drive.  There is nothing wrong with my CD ROM player because if I use a different program, I can play and rip CDs.  How can I fix this problem?

Start by posting your sys info from MJ in Help>System Info. We'll go from there.

Not trying to coopt sbrutocao's topic, but I am seeing th same error with CDs not playing.  I've tried to play them on my Liteon CDRW and my Toshiba DVD-ROM with no luck.  MMJB 8.0 just sits there and does nothing after clicking the file.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Check Settings>Options>Device Settings. Is your "Use Digital Playback" unchecked? Check your mixer settings too (right click on speaker in system tray...open Volume Controls). Maybe something is muted or turned way down.

Thanks for the tip.  Unchecking the digital playback fixed it.  But how do I enable digital playback with an audio cd? Do I need to get the small digital cable and attach it between my CDROM drive and my soundcard?

Another thing...I can't rip CDs to MP3 using the auto-config or ASPI setting, but with IDE selected it works fine.  I get the following errors, "Open drive failed.  Parameter is out of range."  "Read track failed.  Drive is not opened."  Does ASPI get me anything over using the IDE setting?

No. That's the same setting I'm using. It's just a communication method. Use whatever works.

xen-uno, thanks for the tip.  by unclicking digital playback, I was able to play CDs.  Then I ripped one song from a CD and it took about 2 or 3 minutes!  It did your standard rip where the bar line gradually got filled, and then when it was done it "encoded" it for a long time.  Am I doing an unnecessary step by encoding it, or is encoding necessary?

For the life of me...can't figure out what's funked up on you guy'ses machine's (regarding digital playback).

Brut...your rip times sound somewhat normal for an analog rip. Encoding IS necessary if you want much smaller (yet good quality) sound files on your HD. I take it your encoding to MP3 which uses the LAME encoder (best out there). Encoding to ogg is faster and results in better sounding files (to the descriminating ear) BUT isn't as portable (yet) as MP3.

Make sure you have latest OS service packs, DirectX, ASPI, soundcard drivers, MJ, etc.

Yes, my wife has a PhD in Domestic Engineering.  Only problem is it doesn't pay well in monetary terms, only in love and karma.  Unfortunately, newegg and buy.com don't take either of those currencies!

While I can't do digital playback, I have no problem ripping the CD digitally.  I rip in VBR - Quality:normal/high, MP3 Encoding Options - High Quality, and normalization 90%.  I get around 10x for the rip.  The files sound great.  And as far as I know all my stuff is updated.

Could you post your system info (from MJ's help menu)? Also, what "copy mode" are you using for ripping?

Hello,

I'm having a frustrating time ripping or playing cd's thru MC9.  I've had to change the Device Settings Copy Mode to Analog which reduced the speed of ripping to 0.9x.  This feature worked fine at speeds upwards of 2.5x in MJ8, what's changed?  In addition, when I do begin to rip it plays the audio as well as copying which I'm sure limits/reduces the ripping speed.  Lastly, I have no control over the cd when I play the cd thru Jukebox, I can skip tracks but I can't pause or stop.  

I've done the automatic download/updating of ASPI.  This doesn't seem to help or change anything after rebooting.  Does anyone have anyidea how to fix this, I could always go back to MJ8 but then I lose the iPod capabilities that MC9 excels at.

MJ 9.0.89 has a bug for win98 and winME users. It has an extra file that's causing your problems. Look for a file called "wnaspi32.dll" in your MJ directory and rename or delete it (after exiting MJ). Then you should be able to change your rip mode back to digital large buffer and re-enable digital playback.

I am having a similar problem with my MJ8. This morning I burned an audio CD which plays fine on another player. When I put the CD into either of my CD devices and try to read them in MJ, the program crashes. I have tried re-booting the computer and this has not helped.

I would try upgrading to the latest build of version 8, which is 8.0.393.

Could the amount of RAM be affecting it?  128 MB isn't very much to run XP.
